Commercial Description:
Half Acre Lager, the first release by Half Acre Beer Company is brewed using only water, hops, barley and yeast, making sure to respect the integrity of the brewing process and the purity of its ingredients. We chose to balance a rich malt base with a livlier hop content, encouraging a natural, vibrant taste and smell while maintaining the beer’s full body and cloudy, amber appearance. Half Acre Lager is suitable to pair with a range of cuisines and experiences during the season of your choice.

Pours a cloudy orange with about half a finger of off-white head. Sweet malt with a hint of caramel in the odor. The taste is light, starts off with a watery taste that expands into a grassy bitter hop aftertaste. I’m not a huge lager fan, but as far as lagers go, this is serviceable.

Tap: This poured a deep golden with a thin off-white head. The nose gave off a nice combination of carmelly malt, citrus and spice. The hops really come out in this one as it is not far off an IPA. The palate was smooth and rich with a nice lingering finish. One of the better Lager’s I’ve had in a long time.

Pours a deep gold with very little to no head. Aroma is mildly sour and fruity with some sweet malt and honey present. Flavor is very malty with almost no hops. Very grainy and almost a bready aftertaste. Medium bodied with a crisp finish. Nothing standing out here. RERATE, on tap at the brewery in Chicago. A WHOLE DIFFERENT BEER. The bottles come from Sand Creek and are awful. The brewers at the Chicago location have fixed it though. Really nice smooth munich malts, very floral hops, nice body and a great finish. Much better thanks to the Chicago brewery. If its on tap in Chicago its brewed by these guys.

Tasted 5/27/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a bright golden amber hue. Finger width of off-white cream colored head. Mild nose with hints of caramel and hearty breads. On the fuller side of light bodied. Good mouthfeel for a lager. Tingling effervescence followed by a slightly salty caramel flavor. Crisp with nice fruity estery undertones. Finishes crisp with a mildly cloying sticky flavor. Decent hop presence. Sticky citrus hops. Nice lacing head. Picked up a six on a whim while in Chicago, and this turned out to be a diamond in the rough! If I was local, I’d definitely get more of this for the summer.

Pours a darker golden with a pretty standard off-white foamy head. Sour bready malt and metallic hop aroma. Sweet bready malt and metallic bitter hop flavor, well balance and straight forward. Funky aftertaste. Very average body, crisp and well carbonated.

(Tap) Pours a light amber color without much in the way of head. Sweet malty aroma, with some grass and light hop in there as well. Taste is a little more hoppy than I expected, but is generally pretty well balanced. Light caramel malts, with crisp citrus hops in the taste. It’s a decent beer, but I’m not sure it belongs in the Premium Lager category.

Honestly, I’m disappointed to learn that this is contract brewed, I wish we had more breweries in Chicago. It pours a clear amber with a small head. The nose is sweet and malty, with some hops in there. The taste is a good caramel/toffee flavor, with crisp hops finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, but well-carbonated. This is really good for a lager
