Commercial Description:
Pumpkin Harvest Ale created for the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival is brewed with a variety of Pale and Crystal Malts and pumpkins. It is a pale ale with pumpkins added to both the mash and the boil. The pumpkin flavor is noticeable but subdued so the beer is balanced in flavor. The normal hop aroma and flavor of a typical pale ale have been reduced in order to allow the pumpkin character to come through.

Sampled last week at the brewhouse. Well made and full of pumpkin flavor. Pretty strong flavor, crisp and refreshing. Little to no head, but drinks well.

Sampled 11/26/2009. This pumpkin ale pours a medium orange pumpkin color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is malt, some pumpkin, iced tea and sweet. A medium bodied pumpkin beer. The malts are caramel, ice tea and some pumpkin. Hops are earthy and floral. Interesting, but the crystal malts stand out more than anything else. I realize they were trying to emphasize the pumpkin flavors, but pick a different malt than crystal then. Kind of bland and tepid tasting. Lively carbonation. Unlike most other pumpkin beers I’ve had lately the flavors do not open as it warms. Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Tap at the brewpub. The body was a light hazy bronze orange. The aroma was light bread crust with some cinnamon. There was also potpourri goodness. The taste was light pumpkin rind and cinnamon. Bland and uninspired.

This was perhaps my favorite beer that I had during my trip to the brewpub with golubj. Aroma was heavy on vanilla and vegetables with not much spicing at all. Flavor was the same and was pretty tasty. However, where is the spicing? It just did not seem to be a pumpkin styled beer, although it does fit into the overall category.

Draft at the brewpub. Deep brownish orange pour. Aroma is vanilla and some vegetable spicing. Flavor is quite sweet, some bubblegum malt, same vanilla and lightly vegetal mouthfeel overall.

Bottle. 2008 (3rd year? of brewing this). Amber beer with an off-white haed. Malty, light vegetal aroma with a hint of pumpkin pie spice. Malty, light vegetal flavor with some psice showing through and a bit of hops that shows it’s a pale ale, but clashes a bit with the pumpkin/spice. Medium-light bodied. Malt, spice, and some pumpkin lingers.
