Distinct diacetyl/butterscotch aromas and caramel wander into the nose. Sharp crystal malt flavors with the re-emergency of diacetyl/butterscotch. Burnt caramel finish. Definitely more in line with the English lineage of Barleywines and Old Ales. after4ever (2776), Brier, Washington, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 2, 2009 Bottled at RBJG. Clear deep amber, brief head. Piney caramel that lasts from nose and on. Near full bodied with lots of toffee and sparkling treacle. Salty finish. Intensive sweetness takes the edge of it for now, would probably do well with some time in the cellar. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2009 Bottle at the RBJG. Rich toffee sweetness, strong alcohol burn. Some hops noticeable as well. Very rich, semi-complex malts, ok fruitiness, but a bit too sweet. Savvy1982 (318), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2009 Second Edition - evidenced by the wax capsule being green rather than red. Pours a lovely reddish copper colour with a thin white head. Nose is big, rich, and surprisingly expressive for such a young barley wine. Notes of buttery corn-on-the cob, rich malt, molasses, with a whiff of hops, and a suggestion of raisin bread. Palate is peaches and cream corn, with the butteriness carrying through, baked goods, raisins, navy rum, and a lovely date-like sweetness slowly evolve into a well-integrated hoppy bitterness. Finish is very long, and bittersweet. I am coming to be very impressed with this brewery. Sammy (4024), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2009 A young good drinking barleywine served at Volo. Dark amber, with a whisp of head, and leaving lace, served at room temperature. The aroma is liquid fermented bread, like a kvas, you are in a bakery. I can see this getting interesting as it ages. Sweet in initial tastes, the 75 IBU builds up to the finish. Appropriate carbonation, it is a good supper. An above average mouthfeel, though not creamy. Bee-aye 3500. Tingling at first. Bitter aftertaste. Cole (310), , Alberta, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2009 Nice colour, strong complex aroma very sweet smelling. Very bitter flavour and aftertaste. You can really taste the alcohol. This is my first Barley wine and I like it. Very drinkable considering the ABV.
