The aroma is a bit on the pungent side but the flavour is much better. Nice and -ver- bitter, it hides the high alcohal percentage nicely and finishes smooth. Quite a nice brew, it reminds me a lot of Tree Brewing Double IPA, wich is just a bit nicer and very similar tasting. hobbersr (416), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 21, 2009 No age statement, just a green bees wax cover. Pours out of the bottle a deep red with hardly any head. Aroma is of toffee and caramel, some marshmallow, figs , raisins, sweet and floral notes as well. Tastes like anise seeds and butterscotch initially. Then the caramelly malt takes over and then gives way to figs, plums and raisins. Decent bitterness on the finish. This is a really nice barley wine. I will put one away for later. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA

Nose-quite muted, medium hops, big malt. Taste-malt, med bitter, cereal water, meat tenderizer, meaty. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Aroma is candied malt, mild hops too, apricot, small toffee head. Flavour has malt, caramel, hint of butterscotch. Full bodied, very well balanced, a cozy warming beer. Yummy! Thanks Ralph. Ethereal (1707), London, Greater London, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 1, 2009 Bottle at Chris O’s tasting, 26th Sept 2008, courtesy of HogTownHarry. Thank you very much! Perfect deep reddish colour with a frothy white head. Sweet malty aroma. Perfumey, exquisite floral flavour at the start of the sip. More is revealed with each mouthful. The Fuggles and Goldings hop flavours creep up on you as the caramel subsides. Wonderful balance and subtlety. Great stuff! travita (1970), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Bottle exchange got this into my hands about a month ago (Thanks Kris!), but I finally cracked it last weekend with some friends. Poured reddish brown color into a snifter with a mild hop aroma. Overall flavor was slightly fruity, hoppy with a nice dry finish. I was very happy with how hoppy this was for a barleywine (a little bias as I’m a huge hop fan). If I ever make it back up to Winnipeg in the near future, I’m going to definitely try to pick more this up.
