Commercial Description:
At Half Pints, we live by our motto: small brewery, BIG FLAVOR. Nothing proves this more than when we brew this extra strong ale. It is packed with five different malts for a strong dried fruit character and is hopped with UK Fuggles and Goldings for a woody, herbal aroma. This Barleywine is meant to be shared fireside with friends. Try it with a cheese plate of sharp Cheddar, Stilton, and Gorgonzola or a slice of rum soaked fruit cake. It will continue to improve with careful aging in a cool dark place, so try to save a bottle to compare with the new vintage. Serve at 12 degrees celcius in a brandy snifter. Unfiltered and unpasteurized. 75 IBUs

22oz bottle. Understated aroma of rum soaked dark fruits, some citrus rind, thicker, bready malt as well. Pours a thick, dark copper with virtually no head. Toasted malt, lots of citrus zest, some wet oak notes, pine resin. Assertively spicy, but there’s a delicate herbal and floral quality to the beer that makes it most interesting. Leaning toward full bodied with a perfect amount of carbonation for this style of barley wine. Thanks Scott!

Poured a clear orange copper color with a small off-white head. The aroma is moderately hoppy with citrus notes. Sweet fruity malt mixed under that. Malty flavor mixed with a fair amount of citrus and mild pine hops. Nice hop finish and warmth. Medium bodied. Light for a bw but very drinkable.

Very sweet and floral in the nose with just a hint of alcohol. Lightly hazy golden-amber body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled, off white head that recedes to a lasting cover with some patchy lacing. Flavour offers up orange-citrus and floral hops joined by plenty of sweet malts that are rounded out by a fair bit of butterscotch. Medium bitterness doesn’t quite take the edge off the sweet, sweet malts. Pleasant graininess in the aftertaste. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Very drinkable and alcohol is bearly notable. I think I’d like it better if it had fermented down a bit more and weren’t so sweet or perhaps without the diacetyl. Snifter. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Mar-08).

(650ml bottle) Courtesy of Oakes. Purchased at Brewery Creek for $10. Pours a lasting, thin, creamy white head atop an orange-amber body. Nose of mild English hops. THis is good as I like my barleywines either young and really hoppy or old and mellow. Flavour is somewhat sweet with a good hop background below that medium malt base. Somewhat thin and cautious for such an assertive brewer but its definitely a good starting point. Now if Dave could only bring back his Centennial Wheatwine recipe....

Bottle from Brewery Creek: Poured a cloudy orange copper with a sweet bread/muffin aroma and dried fruit tones. Flavour was a mouthful of sweet malt being reigned in by a touch of orange peel and alc. bitterness. Very drinkable if somewhat rough initially. Enjoyable.
