Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

Nice dark brown body with a thin tan head. Very nice aroma, roasted bread, dark malts and light caramel. Roasted matls, coffee and chocolate dominate the taste. Smooth and clean ending. Big thanks to Degarth for sending this my way.

Clear dark mohogany body with a medium frothy brown head. Sweet roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Sweet chocolate flavor with some mild bitter and nuttiness in the end.

Pour is like midnight black with almost no head. Aroma is chocolate with malts and a little coffee. Flavor is super. Lots of chocolate and coffee with some nuts and caramel in there. Been wanting to try tis for awhile now and was not dissapointed. Very tasty.

Bottled, patch 1297 (BB 10/2006). Very dark ruby color, good tan head. Aroma has chocolate, roasted malts and bready barley. Medium to full bodied. Ashy (tobacco), cold coffee and toasted malts in the flavor, also like flavor of burnt rye bread. Very "dark" stout with lots of roast and toast. At least interesting.

Potent and rich nose. Pours quite dark with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Flavour is extremely full-bodied, and more bitter than full of chocolate and licorice as many porters are. Complex, well-formed, dry and rewarding, with just a hint of sweet malt finishing it off. Excellent.

Bottle from Super Saver. Dark brown pour with 1-finger tan head. Aroma of big Wheaties, almonds, figs, choclate syrup. The flavor is dry stouty, with roasty malt plus some chocolate, smoked almonds, and figgy fruit. Decent complexity and balance. Nicely done.

50 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Very dark reddish brown colour with a nice head. Light aroma of roastedness and malt. Very dry and bitter flavour with notes of roastedness but heavily bitter finish.

Intensely dark in colour, head is off white and is initially quite thick & impressive, but that too quickly dies to nowt but a thin covering.Rich roasted malt is the dominant feature of the powerful nose, lots of treacle/molasses.This carries through to the big full flavoured palate.Although very malty, there is a nice bitter edge which lingers nicely on the longish finish.Stout isn’t my favoured style, but I really enjoyed this. Asda, Harrogate.
