Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

Intensely dark in colour, head is off white and is initially quite thick & impressive, but that too quickly dies to nowt but a thin covering.Rich roasted malt is the dominant feature of the powerful nose, lots of treacle/molasses.This carries through to the big full flavoured palate.Although very malty, there is a nice bitter edge which lingers nicely on the longish finish.Stout isn’t my favoured style, but I really enjoyed this. Asda, Harrogate.

Pours a very dark brown, with unclouded mahogany edges and a creamy, tan head that settles as a thick film. Aroma is rather weak coffee, revealing "Special Dark" chocolate and alcohol. Mid-bodied with a flavor that finds the coffee roast more intensely represented. Additional dark fruit and earthen notes. Astringence is welcome in the mouth but produces sourness in the throat. I only wish that all my Nightmares were like this!

Knightly Spirits, Orlando, Fl., 500 ml bottle. Dark copper to brown beef broth like pour with an extremly sticky, long lasting khaki-colored head that leaves generous lacing. Rich, earthy aroma with hints of freshly dug potting soil, day old coffee and fried eggs. Robust porter flavor with hints of baking chocolate, dirt and day old coffee. Smooth, yet at the same time bold. Very creamy, thick mouthfeel. A most excellent porter.

(Bottle) Pours dark brown (close to black) with stable and very creamy head. Notes of heavy roasted coffee, cocoa, smoke and darker malts dominate the nose and taste. Rather complex yet easy drinkable. Very nice!

Dark brown, beige lasting head. Malty sweet aroma. Soft carbonation. Roasted malty flavour. Hoppy bitter finish. Some underling malty sweetness. Slightly sugarsticky palate. Not reaaly very stoutish/porterish, but drinks very well. The commercial description made me expect more

The aroma is a light malt, with a hint of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. The head was creamy and light brown and mostly diminishing. The color was black but when held to the light was a very dark red. The initial flavor and finishing flavor is a light bitter with an average duration. The body is roughly medium and the texture is dry with a soft carbonation.

Deep reddish colour with a tan head. Light roasted malty aroma with vanilla and chocolate notes. Light roasted malty flavor with some coffee bitterness and a faint chocolate sweetness.
