Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

Very English in character. Not as thick and heavy as some of our native porters, but still quite good and very flavorul. Complex aroma with oak, fruit, and roasted malt. Flavor is a blend of medium bodied coffee, malt, and light dried fruit. Very drinkable, a little thin. Best at room temperature.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown (almost black) body with a moderate creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, maple syrup, vinous, and chocolate. Flavor of roasted malt and some coffee. Bitter finish.

One of the maliter smelling beers I have come across. Smells like those non-alcoholic sweet malt beverages. Black with a thich head that compresses down to the thickness of a quarter. Coffee and malt dominates. Some bitterness in the finish and a mild roastiness. Palate is fairly sturdy for a porter, but there is a watery tinge in the aftertaste.

Bottle, thanks Blankboy. Thick black pour with lots of red hints. Decent pleasing coffee notes (not overpowering) in aroma. Mouthfeel was a little watery, but also heartier than expected - this one really seemed more stout than porter to me at first. Taste is that of coffee, chocolate and roasted flavours. Taste lingers at the end with a slight acidic quality I more associate with porter than stout, so this beer really is somewhere in between both styles. Very nice - nothing to jump out at you here, just a solid enjoyable brew.

500mL bottle. My bottle says "Yorkshire Porter", not "Extra Stout Porter". I don’t know if there’s a difference. Pours a super-dark mahogany with ruby highlights and a thin, dark tan head that laces well. Cocoa is notable as soon as the bottle is poured out. Lots of chocolate and some vanilla present too. I catch some burnt toast and molasses by the bottom of the glass. Very soft and smooth body despite the high carbonation. Cocoa, chocolate and coffee are present up front and give way to a lightly bitter, roasty grain finish that lingers a little. Too thin to be memorable.

Very dark brown, small beige head. Dilute coffee-mocha aroma. Muddled roast and muted chocolate with lingering mocha notes. Thin palate. Pleasant.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev & jerc - courtesy of blankboy. Dark ruby-brown with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate malt & cafe au lait. Mouthfeel is soft, very pleasant. Mellow mocha flavour with a moderately hopped finish. Decent.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev & jerc. Pours dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, roasted coffee and some hops. Palate is creamy and bitter. Taste was a dissapointment, it has everything mentioned in the aroma but is too watered down and mild -- it needs more of everything. Average.
