Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

Bottle. Pours near black with a small cream colored head. Nose is light molasses, roasted malts, watered down coffee, and hints of caramel. Taste is pretty much the same - light bitter coffee notes, roasted malts, light caramel, hint of smokiness, and cocoa. Body is smooth and creamy with light bitterness and mild carbonation. Finish is very roasty and coffee-like. Bitter with light bittersweet chocolate notes. Good stuff!

This pours a translucent dark brown with ruby highlights, slight carbonation, and a thin light brown head that does some decent lacing. It’s got a creamy chocolate aroma blended with some light roasted barley. Medium-bodied and very smooth in the mouth, it’s got some nice roasted flavors, dark malts, and some chocolate. Oddly, it’s got a watery finish. Still, a very drinkable porter.

Poured very dark, like chocolate mixed with cherries, with a thick, creamy tan head with lace that lingers. Aroma a bit sour at first pour, but it sweetened up. Nice malts, roasty and tasty, but not outstanding.

Dark brown colored, foamy light brown head. Creamy aroma with roasted notes and some chocolate. Roasted and milk chocolate flavor. Good, but quite mild and more like an ale. Dry.

500mL bottle ($4.99)
Creamy tan head, well retentive. Ruby color with dark brown ribbons. Nose of bark, grass, light sweet tobacco. Taste is fairly balanced & shy. Digging deeper I find subtle roast, licorice, & some malt body. Maybe a touch watery in the finish but no denying this is a classic british porter.
