Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

500ml Bottle. Poured a dark brown with reddish edges and a large sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, a little earthy, and light roast. Tastes of cocoa, caramel, roast, and light coffee. Thinner body.

500 ml. Nearly opaque mahogany with a half-inch of creamy lasting foam above. Nice frosting on the pint glass. Earthy-spiced chocolate, caramel, blackberry and raisin aroma is delicious. Flavor follows aroma but with some added dry-side ballast of hickory wood, ash and char. Nice aftertaste of cocoa, chalk and slight cherry. Medium-heavy body is one of the smoothest ever. This brilliant session beer is just watery enough to keep from being sticky and has a nearly chalky finish.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml from Booths of Longton, Lancs. Almost black with tan head. This has a tarry, liquorice aroma which follows into the flavour, smooth, slightly sweet with molasses notes. Rich, fruity with slightly smoky malt. Reasonable.

Appearance: Pours a very dark, brown body with some reddish hints to it and a small, off-white head. Smell: Aroma of roasted barley and a blend of semi-sweet chocolate and molasses. Taste: Chocolatey, roasty malts with a slight taste of raw barley. Fairly restrained sweetness. Medium earthy bitterness. Whisper of smoke. Drying finish with a ramped up roastiness. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Touch of creaminess to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: A fine, relatively pleasing English porter.

Pours deep brown red with not much carbonation. No head. Smells of bourbon and malt. Light body. First taste is smokey and sweet followed by a slight bitterness. Very light and mild. More flavor than I expected. pretty tasty.
