Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

500 ml bottle from Holiday. Pours a very dark brown that only the faintest light can penetrate. The head is meager and unimpressive, there is no lacing. The Aroma is light with chocolate and molasses. The flavor is rich with molasses, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and walnuts. The mouthfeel is a bit thin for this style, I prefer a more creamy porter. The finish is short and clean. Overall: this is a very drinkable porter, I will drink again. Recommended.

Pours a brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, molasses, and a little smoke. Flavor is a little lighter and sweet with the molasses, chocolate, and coffee. Finishes with some smoke and bitterness. A pretty good english porter.

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate roasted smoky malt aroma. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. Medium roasted balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Very dark brown with an off white head. Aroma of burnt paper and marmite. Rather a restrained taste after that. More ashiness on the palate, some sourness and liquorice, plus a lurking bitter hit at the end. It’s fair enough.

Deep brown with a nice layering of beige head. Nice aroma of malts, molasses, raspberries, toasted malts, smoke, and cocoa. Body is a little thin, and nicely carbonated. Roasted malts dominate the flavor. Smoke, some molasses, and light berries/fruit. Finish is long of bittersweet toasted malts. Enjoyable porter.

Aroma smoky, rich berries. Pours deep ruby/mahogany with good beige head leaving slightly sticky lacing. Flavour huge - rich toasty malt, liquorice, coffee, hints of dried fruit. roasted malts predominate yet slightly fruity. on the finish with lingering dryness. lovely stuff.

Dark brown-black beer with ruby highlights. Aroma is quite chocolatey with a light roasty character over some other dark character malts. Flavour is quite good. Nice roasted malt character over a soft bready malt base. There is a light cherry fruit character as well. There is a soft tartness on the back of the palate as well. A light lingering fruitiness trailing off into rich roast. Lovely porter.

I love the aroma in this one, but the rest just falls short of everything. the palate is thin, the malts are unpleasant smoky. The taste just work wither as a straight drink or an food complement.
