Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

Draft at the Blind Tiger. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma of coffee grounds, some chocolate, and lactic acid. The flavor is mostly roasted malt, but as I drank it, the sour lactic flavor seemed to dominate. I would say this is average for the style.

Pours deep mahogany into an English pint. Mocha-colored head quickly subsides to skim surface and hug rim. Chocolate and malt aromas. Caramel upfront with a thin, slightly sour chocolate malt finish.

Pours black with minimal beige head. The nose is toasty with a strong sense of licorice. The palate is beautiful with a strong finish.

9/9/07 From the bottle. Aroma is super chocolaty but not really sweet. Has a low head. Flavor is well roasted but not astringent and goes down very easy. Mouthfeel is actually relatively light bodied for the style but has some good roast character. Overall, a really great porter that makes it very easy to have more than one.

Black with creamy lasting tan head. Roast, fresh malt, and mild brandy aromas. Balanced, cream, roast, mild fruit and mild carmel malts with some hops at finish. Smooth, balanced, and great drinking experience.

Bottle. Thanks to Enjoyit for this one. Pours daark brown with a small, fast-disappearing greyish/light brown head. Swetish roasted aroma with fruity notes. Flavour is sweetish and roasted as well. Nice, but not very outspoken, notes of coffee. Finish has lingering coffee notes, but feels a bit thin. Faint notes of licorice and apple. Could be more well-balanced, and could do with a bit more carbonation. An okay beer, but not nearly as good as the cask version. 04-08-07.
