Commercial Description:
Pasteurised bottle.
This is an extra stout porter. Unlike many stouts, Nightmare is not harsh or overly bitter. A smooth, massively flavoured creamy drink, best served on the ’warm’ side, allowing full appreciation of this four malt brew. It was runner-up in the ’Stout and Porter’ class at the Great British Beer Festival 1994, Champion Beer at the SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1995 and CHAMPION WINTER BEER OF BRITAIN at the first Great British Winter Beer Festival in Glasgow 1997. Gold Award - ’Stout and Porter’ class SIBA (NORTH) Festival 1999 and 2003.

A black beer with no head. The aroma is of fruit and brewmash. The flavor is slightly sour, slightly smoked, and pretty sweet. Not my style of porter.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a clear, reddish mahogany with a creamy, beige head leaving laces. Aroma is almost pure chocolate. Medium body with distinct, hard roasted malty accents and then also flavours of bitter, dark chocolate. The malt does leave some bitterness. 030107

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Clack, beige head. Roasty coffee aroma. Very dry and crisp with evident flavour of freshly ground coffe that lingers all the way through to the finish. A very drinkable, uncomplicated one-flavour beer.

Bottled. Dark brown colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is mildly burnt wood, roasted malts, some ashes and chocolate. Flavour is roasted malts, burnt wet wooden notes, vanilla and some slight dark fruity notes. Also mild coffeeish sourness lurking in the background.

Very dark brown ale with dry, toast-like flavours and a touch of wineyness in the finish. Fishman is right - there are so many better English porters on the export market (Fuller’s, Sam Smith’s, Salopian Entire Butt)
