Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available in pasteurised bottle.
In a class of its own, there is no denying the pedigree of this beer. National award winning brewer, Nick Stafford, has created a recipe of subtle bitterness and aromatic finish that will be repeated for generations. This wonderfully smooth drinking beer began life as an 'Autumn Special'. It was immediately the most popular special we had produced. Aroma hops give a delicacy and subtlety to the robust full-bodied flavour. Straw coloured.

Cask. Nice fruity aroma. The flavour is sweet and fruity with a bitterness which gets a bit acidic. Hazy golden colour, frothy white head. A bit of plastic in the flavour, too.

Bottled. Hazy amber coloured with a medium sized head. Malty with notes of caramel, citrus and metal. A bit sterile with a somewhat hoppy finish.

Hazy golden orange body, creamy white head, laces; Deep and super citrus fruity bitter nose, citrus hop, very fresh unripe orange and strangely even freshly picked blueberry aromas; Soft textured flat body, very little sharp bitterness; Long finish with Gueuze aromas of young green apples, lemon, bitter lemon peel, later clear notes of Earl Grey. This is a very special beer, a little unbalanced because of all the fruity bitterness.

Bottle. Amber coloured with a large off-white head. Nice hoppy and malty aroma. Flavours are malts, caramel, fruity with citrus and some late bitterness in the finish. Light to medium bodied; drinkable stuff. Good.

Amber colour, has a fine big head, mainly lasting. Fine hoppy aroma, reminds me of something microbrewed. Palate is a bit thin. Refreshing bitter flavor.

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy amber with an off-white head leaving laces. Slightly fat, malty nose. Medium-body with a sweetish, lightly caramelish malt base with a vague - but refreshing - citrusy edge. Quite light and very quaffable. 140706

Cask (handpump) at the Carlton Arms, Cambridge, May 2006. Rather sparse notes I’m afraid as I thought (wrongly) that I had rated this before. Golden colour. There are clearly some flowery hops trying to burst out in the aroma but that was rather compromised by an unwelcome touch of buttery diacetyl. On the palate its light and fruity with some citric notes. Perhaps finishes a touch too sweet for my taste. Nonetheless pleasant and easy drinking. But the diacetyl was a bit of a spoiler for me.

Cask at The Carlton Arms during the afternoon break at Cambridge Beer Festival 2006. Golden. Thin malt with a dry finish, some hops. Rather boring. The commercial description made me laugh.
