The label says "Pure Quality" instead of "Export" and It has "Imported Dortmunder" inscribed in the gold frame around the crest. So its a mild beer with a yeasty malty aroma. Very pale golden yellow, and a small white head. Bready malt flavor with a little hop bitternes at the end. Fairly clean and a little watery. I can imagine this was intended for serving with dinner, as it seems well designed for washing down hearty German fare. It was a good choice for washing down hearty American fare, as I had one with a meal of roast Cornish Hen. As a stand alone session beer its a little bland and lightweight. No off flavors, great as a meal accompaniment, but not enough character for a session beer. Picked up a six pack of pint bottles on sale for $5.99 at ABC in Jacksonville FL. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Feb 13, 2006 Clear golden color and mildly effervescent with a thin white head that lasts pretty well. Not much lacing evident. Aroma of bready malt and Lager-like hops. Light-bodied and very clean on the tongue. Mild malt and caramel flavors along with a bit of hops. The finish is mildly sweet malt and corn and does not linger. Below average, I would expect more from a Dortmunder from the city of Dortmund. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 8, 2006 16oz bottle - pours golden with a short white head that fades pretty quickly. Aroma of sweet malts, a touch of honey, and some Bavarian hops. Flavor is sweet malts, a touch of caramel and honey and a somewhat bitter hop finish. Palate is light with not much carbonation. Very drinkable and would be a fair session. nick76 (2669), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 4, 2006 The aroma is a good representative of the style. I get tons of malt, plenty of hops and a wee bit of sourness. The appearance is what you would expect as well. It’s clear gold with a medium head. The flavor is very nice if you like malty beers. There is also some bitterness to balance it out. This one is only mildly sweet. The finish is malty with a hint of corn. I know corn is not used in this style of beer but I still detect a corn like taste. The palate is thin but ok for the style. I like this one quite well. It’s a great drink to have with a meal since it’s not overpowering. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 15, 2005 Fresh, grainy, clean malt forward aroma. Clear golden body is topped by a low white head that recedes to partial cover and ring. Herbal hop flavour with sweet and lightly grainy malt character. Light body with refreshingly crisp carbonation. Bottle sampled at the Country Inn with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Rastacouere and Yowie. RAYBOY01 (1847), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 27, 2005 Certainly better (by far) than a 15 percentile brew. Lively carbonation...citrusy dortmunder with very pronounced hoppiness and a distinctly dry crisp refreshing finish. beerbuzzmontreal (2911), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Oct 26, 2005 Pours a clear golden color with a ring of white lace. Boring aroma of malt. Boring flavor of malt and citrus. The body is light to medium with a watery texture and lively carbonation. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 22, 2005 The Lure: Aroma is a bland and quiet version of what is to come. Honeyed malt sweetness and yeasty fruit esters. Very ordinary.
The Festivities: Honey and pears surround the yeast’s fruity esters. Big bubbles calmly transport mineral notes and hop phantoms. Mainly boring.
Transcendence: Our team lost again.
