jrob21 (1250), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 7, 2009 Surprised to find this recently. Pour is a murky reddish brown color with zero head. Might be good with a little more age on it as the palate flavors are a little out of whack. A bit of a pungent bitterness draws your attention from the rest of the fruity and general yeasty goodness here. Once you can get past that initial shock though this is a delightful drink. Aroma is pretty interesting with a bit of sweetness and some fruit. The fruit comes through to the flavor pretty nicely. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle - 375mL corked and caged called Hanssens Lambic Experimental Cassis. Murky purplish-red pour. Only trace bubbles on the surface. Really no apparent carbonation of which to speak. Aroma is bitingly tart fruits, rotten berries, burnt rubber, lemon juice and wet earth. Musty basement in there as well. Taste is sour fruit, berries, sour cherry, lemon juice, vinegar/acetic acid, wet wood and damp basement. Light cat piss as well. Body is light and slick. No carbonation. Very astringent and acidic feel in the mouth. Bone dry towards the end as well. Ends with more sour fruit, rotten berries, lemon juice, acetic acid/vinegar, wet wood, cat urine and damp forest. Musty, old book as well. Very tasty. Lacking only carbonation which would have put this way over the top! TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Nov 4, 2009 Bottle shared by durhambeer. Thanks BOBO! This was really good stuff. I drank it really fast which means I liked it. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2009 Red brown pour with a slight purple tint. Little head. Grassy vinegar aroma. Slight sweetness quickly overpowered by very tart and sour woody funk. DaSilky1 (1932), San Diego, California, USA Nov 1, 2009 Bottle from hamiltons: pours a purple color, I think, with the only head a product of manipulative pouring....big bubbles and more from gravity than carbonation, I suspect. Nose is spot on..generous funk. Extreme sourness, berry notes, powdered sugar. Sublimeness. Completely flat unfortunately...but the berry, funk, cheese, and sourness combine nicely. I hate that most hanssens end up flat because they are so good otherwise...with prickly carbonation, this may have caused orgasm. As is, its a little needing in something...carbonation? Fuck. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 29, 2009 Thanks durhambeer. Pours a bright deep red with no head. The nose is tart and acidic, some fruit skins, mild bandaid phenol, estery, yeasty funk. Flavor has a rich fruity flavor, dark berries, tart and acidic, mildly phenolic. Palate is acidic. eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Oct 28, 2009 Bottle from SL. Pour is flat out purple. No head. No nothing. Not a bubble. No fizz or pop at all on opening. The aroma was funky leather, sour lemon and acetic notes, faint wood, currants obviously. The flavor followed, strong acetic notes, funky and acidic. More wood / oak notes would have been welcomed, light flavor, a tad on the watery side, completely uncomplemented by a flat mouthfeel. Meh, this really isn’t that newsworthy, experimental or not. Didn’t do much for me. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Oct 26, 2009 Aroma is acedic, tart cherries, aluminum, and sweet oakiness.
Pour is still. Dull ruby with no head.
Taste is all acetic cherry with a dull stinging presence that slowly develops.
Finish is oily and sour.
