Hanssens Mead the Gueuze

375ml bottle thanks to davinci!!! Pours a clear rich darker golden with basically no head. Aroma is strong and nostril stinging dusty funk, lightly sweet, smells like a gueuze. Flavor follows, mostly gueuze, funky barnyard, moderately sweet, the mead sweetness really shows towards the finish, very light bitterness. The honey lingers in a very soft and pleasant way with minimal sweetness. Medium bodied, lightly syrupy, almost no carbonation. It’s a very nice blend deserving a higher score.

375ml - Cork exploded after I uncaged it and blew my eardrum with the POP! Aroma of horse blanket, straw, cork and a touch of honey. Flavor matches aroma with the honey really lingering. Palate is tart but clean. A great sweet and sour combo that is quite unique. I like it!

Bottle. Funky, sharp aroma; sweet mead, gueuze and basement. Medium tart flavor, very light bitterness on the finish balances out the sweet and tart nicely.

interesting blend. Weird, tasty, and not terrible, A bit flat (the mead), but also has the sour note of lambic. My mouth doesn’t know exactly what to do with this one.

12.7 oz bottle - Pours a crystal clear light yellow/amber color with big thin white head that quickly dissipears. Aroma of honey, anise, apricot, oak, touch of vinegar and leather. Flavor is tart, with honey background, bit of oak, tart vinegar backbone, with a tart, fairly dry finish. Not bad overall, but just seems like a mead and a gueuze stuck together, each standing out seperately - they don’t really blend or compliment each other well.

Pours with a light amber hue with no head, and no visible carbonation. Aroma is of dark fruits, champagne, honey, yeast. Flavor has a sweet beginning, with a light-sour ending - very acidic beer! Awkward beer, but not bad at all!

Bottle courtesy of hellbilly. Thanks! Pours with a still body and no head. Beneath is a hazed burnt gold body. Aroma is floral with honey and mead notes, some attic, light barnyard and acidic lemon. Taste is weird and funky with vinegar notes, acidic, tannic and woody. Light carbonation. I like both the gueuze and mead slightly better by themselves.

Murky, muddled color is burnt orange and pretty ugly. Nearly flat. Really odd aromas are hard to pinppoint. Honey for sure. Sweet, flowery and fruity with just a hint of the lambic in the background. Tastes totally different than it smells. More gueze-like in the flavors than the aromas with wood and some funk. Not sweet, just strange.
