This is a very nice lambic, and a very nice "starter" lambic if you are trying to expose some people to one of the greatest beer styles out there. Is the aroma funky? Yeah, it is but it’s not so far funky that will turn someone away. It’s got the barnyard, old leather going but it’s very tame. Appearance is a light reddish/pink color with a fizzy head. To say the mouthfeel is puckering is accurate, but again it’s not so where it might turn someone away. Flavors are a nice blend of sweet strawberries, acidic, tartness as well as a bit of funk. I liked this and will buy more for other people to sample. It’s an eye opener for sure.

Bottle at Delirium, Brussels. Has the Hanssens house fingerprint all over it. Didn’t pick up so much of the strawberries at first but after comparing with a straight gueze they were definitely noticeable. I enjoyed Hanssens gueuze and the strawberries in this worked great.

Bottle courtesy of Inertiaboy. Hazy amber headless body. Powerfully acidic aroma u-turns to sweet strawberry. Bone dry acidic flavour with strong bacterial character. Strawberries are hard to pick out past the sourness. Average palate. Decent, but a rough ride for non-lambicheads. Thanks for sharing Inertiaboy! .

(Rating #743)

Slight cloudy honey gold hue, with no head and carbonation, the nose is one of wineyness, barnyard, funky horse blanket, leathery, acidic, wet oakiness, with a subtle strawberry fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a pure lambic palate with a yeasty brettanomyces character, with a winey, tart accent, with a faint strawberry fruit flavor, musty, oaky, horse blanket notes, with the usual lambic nature, leading towards a dry, tartness finish.

Been waiting to try this one for a while. Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Looks like a typical gueuze. Would have expected it to be a little bit redder considering the addition of strawberries. Aroma is typical barnyard funk, with hints of strawberry candy (the one where the wrapper looks like a strawberry), honey and leather. Lots of carbonation, crackling after first poured. Sweet and sour palate. I like it a bit more on the sour side, but this is a fine and interesting offering from Hanssens.

Light golden brown in appearance with very little head. The aroma is incredible! Very much a mix of sweet and sour. Lots of peach, honey and some good funk. The palate is very smooth and medium bodied. Great funk flavors. Sweet upon the first taste, but sour in the finish. Underrated in my opinion.
