Commercial Description:
As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

Bottle. Amber beer with a nice off-white head. Tart, slight lemony, slight acetic aroma. Tart/sour flavor with some earth and light lemony citrus. Some balancing sweetness. Decent acetic notes. Medium body. Lingering acetic sour with wood and earth.

This is how a geuze is supposed to be. An aroma which is nearly bad but at the same time promising, a flavor of heaven with sour, bitter and surprising elements melting together - try this now!

Poured a soft hazy yellow with a creamy white head. The nose is tart, sour, vinous, muscadine, funky, dry. The flavor is also very tart and sour, yeasty and funky, acidic with a light waxyness. Tart and carbonated mouthfeel.

Bottle at Spuyten. Hazy light orange with a medium, dissipating off white head. Aroma: funky and sour, with sour apple, citrus, horseblanket, pepper, oak, and cheese. Taste is nice, with alot of sour fruit- apples, citrus, pepper, funky socks, old cheese, damp wood and some vinegar. Very mild sweetness across the palate. This was a nice gueze, enjoyed it.

At Cafe Bar Le Duc ’s Hertogenbosch (NL). A hazy yellow/golden colored beer, with a nice, small but fast white head. This stays very long. The aroma is woody, sour. Also fruity with some bitter. The taste is sour/biiter, but it fades to gentle sour/sweet. It’s a fresh beer. As aftertaste the sour with sweet stays for a while. Another very good geuze

Old review from 2006, need to re-rate this. Poured a cloudy yellow color, leaves a light lacing around the glass. Smell was sour and funky, definate barnyard smell. Taste was sour and reminded me of a horse in a barn eating rotten fruit. Average carbonation and light bodied. I couldn’t drink all of mine, I just didn’t care for it. Additional info: I’m sure this is spot on for the style, but this was my first try at the style. I didn’t seem to care for Oud Bruin’s the first time I tried them, but I love them now. So even though this won’t be given high scores from me, I definately think it’s worth trying and I will be trying it again, hopefully enjoying then.

Darker orange like color with a foamy white head. Dry and thinner palate. Smell is little grain, fruits, and tart. Taste is super sour, a good fruity tartness, and acidic. Long lasting taste. Good.
