Commercial Description:
As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

Bottle sample at Union Beer Trade Tasting, NYC. Clear golden colour, quite still. Aroma is medicinal, funky, a bit woody. Flavour is quite citric and tart, but it’s lacking some of the complexity that I hope for in a good gueuze. Certainly nothing to sneeze at, but still a little disappointing.

Bottle at home - shared with Mette. Unclear amber - white head. Wood grape, sweet, sour....lovely gueuze, but a rather smoot and "creamy" feeling compaired io other gueuzes i have tasted.

(Bottle) Colour is pale amber with a big, frothy, white head, disappearing after a while. Surprisingly clear. Nose is wineous and acidic with notes of citrus, grapefruit, green apples, stable, sweaty horse and hints of vinegar and even some smoke. Musty, acidic taste with grapefruit, apricots, barn yard, horse blanket. Harsh but very well balanced. Absolutely magnificent, one of the best gueuzes I’ve tried.

Pretty clean palate. Not quite dry, more acidic, but leaves the palate very bare. Good prickly carbonation, better than I expected based on the thin head. Certainly sour and tart. Sweet, fruity. Very citric. Almost like there’s citric acid instead of lactic. Lemon and orange. Salty. Not extremely funky. Really just tart and crisp. I would have pegged this as a berlinner weisse, not a gueuze. Then again, I have little experience with the style.

Bottled, 37.5cl chamgagne-cork. Unclear, orange beer with some clouds and a nice white head. The nose is barnyard, apple, fruit, yeast, cellar and quite sour. Nice flavor with yeast, cellar, citrus and green apples. Quite astringent and fizzy in the mouth, with a long sour finish. Really lovely after 5 Swedish swills. Palate-cleaning. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. (060824)

Bottle, 37.5cl corked. A hazy, orange beer with a white head. Horse blanket, some wheat and citrus in the aroma. The flavor is much the same, but the citrus and horse blanket are more evident than the wheat. Astringent, tart and citrusy. Plain lovely, more-ish and refreshing. (080926)
