Commercial Description:
As with all Gueuzes, Hanssens is a mixture of several vintages to produce a lambic which is refreshingly fruity.

This is the result of blending different lambics of different ages. The second fermentation takes place inside the bottles and therefore they are stored for minimum six months in constant temperature kept cellars.

Bottled. An unclear orange beer with a thin light yellow head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wood and grapefruit, while the flavor is acidic with notes of wood. The acidity burns slightly in the throat.

(Bottle 37,5 cl) As "Hanssens Gueuze" at 5% ABV. I remember when I first found this years ago in the drink market "De Cagny Brothers" in Essen. In a wooden box in a corner I found a few crown corked bottles with no labels or anything. But a large swarm of fruit flies were buzzing around the cork which was leaking slightly. Not the most hygienic or well-presented beer...
Orangey golden with very little head. Vinegary, sour, citrusy nose. Very tart but complex flavours of....horseblanket? Well, to be honest I haven’t really smelled a horseblanket for several years. Earthy notes and a long sour palate. A taste-bud killer indeed. 030498

(Bottle 37,5 cl) As "Hanssens Oude Gueuze". Very orangey golden with a small, discreet head. a smell of fruits in the early stages of rot. Very complex gueuze and actually quite drinkable. Hasn’t got the very sharp, vinegary edge as other traditionals in the style. 120700

37.5 cL bottle, trade with BelJohansen. Pours hazy orange with a slowly diminishing creamy white head. Orange and acidic dry wooden aroma. Flavour is solid acidic to citric with a nice orange fruity note. Has a distinct wooden note I only sensed during the first sip. The citric flavour makes me shiver. Bone dry yet fruity. Thirst quencing - nice one.

Bottled. Hazy pale amber, small head. Striking barnyard aroma. Citric with rounded maltiness and a superb light, sparkling mouthfeel. Acidic with concetrated berries dominating a complex flavour profile. An unbelievably fantastic beer, at least in the shape this bottle was in.

Flavor is moderate acidic and sour with a average to long duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat. (230907)
