Commercial Description:
Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Hanssens Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Hanssens Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik". If in doubt, message JorisPPattyn.

Cask at Redlight Redlight. Pours a very hazy, glowing golden amber color with virtually no head or lace. The nose is really funky, heavy on dust and barnyard wood. Catty, citric notes and hints of earthy vegetables make for interesting bedfellows. Flavors are similarly odd and yet strangely appealing. Grilled lemon, smoked oak, earthen celery and farmhouse dust all come to mind. There’s a strange, strong mineral contingent as well. The finish is sour and citric, lingering longer than a lambic typically does. Medium bodied, puckering, and surprisingly tingly on the tongue for a cask beer. Very interesting lambic. Strange at first, but it really grows on you.

Poured a lightly hazy golden color with small ring of white bubbles, with light lacing left on the glass. Aroma of citrus fruits, apple, wild yeasts, wood, and a bit of vanilla. Taste of citrus, dry woodiness, green apple, light sweetness, and a sour finish.

(matured sample from the plastic barrel) Hazy, pale orange to golden colour with almost no head. Acidic and slightly malty nose with green apples, citrus, vinegar and light woody notes. Moderately acidic flavour, light bodied without carbonation. Dry and mild Lambic-character with a moderate fruitiness of citrus, apples and apricots; moderately acidic and slightly tart and woody finish (07.09.08).

Aroma: smells of a darkroom and darkroom chemicals--particularly like stopbath, which is a super concentrated acidic acid. Some summer fruits, peaches, and apricots
Appearance: golden yellow
Flavor: nice summer fruits, lite peaches and apricots, maybe little pineapple, lactic acid, some bananas
Palate: lactic aftertaste, not very filling but very smooth

Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2008. Still clear honey color. Bright honey and lacto sharpness in the nose, some character similar to La Folie, pungent, sharp and acidic smell. Cedar and oak as well, with some larger notes of apple cider vinegar. Flavor is mostly light and smooth, centered on honey and cider, but also having a wheat and hay earthiness. Lacks really any strong sharpness, and has a thinner body than preffered, but somehow it just works. The sourness which isn’t there up front or in the middle makes a surprise appearance in the finish with a bursting pungency.
