Commercial Description:
HAPKIN has a very good fresh, flowery, Saaz hop aroma, a very big creamy head, a soft malt character, and a spritzy, perfumy fruitness drying toward the finish.

Bottled Bruges 03-11-05. Quite a poky golden Belgian ale, large white frothy head, have to agree with some of the others very Duvel like in style, not bad at all.

Deep golden colour with a light haze and a large foamy white head. Light malty sweet aroma with a weak yeasty note and hints of some floral hoppyness. Malty, yeasty flavor with a hoppy bitterness and a dry finish.

11.2 oz bottle. Poured a huge thick head with a dull hazy gold color in the glass. The enormous head died rather quickly. A surprisingly over-sweet tone to the malt aroma, somewhere between caramel and molasses maybe. I’m at a loss to find the precise word for this peculiar sweet aroma though. Overall flavor and aroma mellows/improves as you allow the beer to reach room temp from out of the fridge. I could not detect the Saaz in the nose over the sweetish malt smell. Rather alcoholic. Does not stand up to Duvel in any rating category here, but not entirely unenjoyable.

a deceptively light coloured powerful beer, very much in the duvel style, gets better as you progress

33cl bottle from Franglais, Calais. Golden strong Belgian beer with fluffy white head. Looks like Duvel, claims to be like Duvel, but has none of the subtle nuances and great flavour of that beer. Sickly alcoholic flavour, no great aroma apart from some over ripe banana and finish has some harsh hop and apricot flavour. Some golden syrup as well. Bit of a sledgehammer this one.

Aroma: spiritous, malty, tiny hint of banana. Appearance: poures golden yellow, hazy with yeast, smallish head made of big bubbles and very little lacing. Flavour: spiritous, sugar sweet, malty and distinctive hop bitterness. Palate: very carbonated.
