Silphium (2029), Lansing, Michigan, USA Apr 1, 2005 On tap at Harpers. You know, it’s like they don’t even try with the names anymore...anyway, this poured dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma was a bit hard to describe, being hoppy (earthy) with tannins and nuts as well as chocolate. The body was nutty and a bit fruity and, as it warmed, earthy/piney hops became fairly strong. Towards the end this became medicinal, almost minty, and a bit like sucking on cedar bark. That wasn’t necessarily bad, but it wasn’t impressive, either.
