Silphium (2029), Lansing, Michigan, USA Feb 9, 2006 On tap at Harpers. It would have been fun to taste a handful of these Poor Richard’s Ales to tease apart the differences. Alas, this is my first one. Fiery orange-brown body, thin off-white head. Sweet, sugary aroma with toasty and earthy notes, with light bitterness. Strong brown sugar flavor, very sweet, with toast, caramel, light leafy bitter notes. The aftertaste is sweet to the point of cloying. Despite the very strong sweetness this seemed a bit thin-bodied. Kind of a slow sipper, despite being flavorful, due to the sugars.
