Fairly smoky with a nice smooth roast making up the aroma and the flavor. Light semi-dry finish. Nice beer. Hank1980 (744), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 4, 2008 Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a thin white head. Aroma of smoke and roasted malt. Smoke isn’t too big here, as it can be. Taste is smokey with a little bit of malt/chocolate sweetness. Body is lighter than normal for this type of brew. dlovell2 (140), Columbia, Maryland, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Dark brown with tan head. Smokey aroma like bacon. Smokey taste. Smoke is the overpowering factor in this beer. But still a very enjoyable unique porter. MiP (9070), Sønderborg, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Bottle, 5.4%. Smoky and cardboardy aroma. Very dark brown colour with a red shine, seems clear. Very small, bubbly light brown head. The flavour is nicely smoked, subtly, but still distinct. A sort of woody charcoal smoke. The aftertaste has more smoke, getting a bit more towards salami, and with some goat flavour. Thin mouthfeel, but this suits the beer fine. One-dimensional, but I like it a lot. gunnfryd (3583), Kristiansand, Norway

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Bottle. A dark brown beer with a reddish tint and an off-white head. Mocha, chocolate, coffee, some sourish notes and a dryish touch in the aroma. Not much smoke detected there, but sure fine. Chocolate, mocha and a sour touch in the flavor, finishing with a lasting roastyness. Full to medium body. A nice beer, but they should have used more smoked malt I think. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2008 Foam Rangers January meeting. Crisp darkened brown with big head. Basic roasted malts, coffee and smoke, but somehow I feel they don’t integrate well. The flavor is a little flabby for me and overall not that impressive. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

1/07/2008: Harpoon Smoked Porter pours a clear cola brown with a large, foamy, tan head that slowly bubbles away. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, yeast, and hint of beechwood smoked malt. The flavor is lightly smoky, dry, and has a lot of roasted malt flavor and some coffee in the finish. Unfortunately, there isn’t too much exciting going on in this beer and very little smoke. It could easy be mistaken for a regular, robust porter that has a high content of roasted malts. The body is medium-light to medium, marginally smooth, and again, not to exciting. Overall this is an average beer that needs more smoke and depth.
