Commercial Description:
100 barrel series. A strong and dark Wheat Wine-style Ale crafted by Jason and Todd Alström at the Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, VT. Brewed with 50% malt and 50% wheat, including German chocolate and caramel wheat and Munich malt, spiced with 4 hop varieties, and fermented clean with the Chico yeast strain. Unfiltered and dry-hopped. Deceiving light, yet tremendously flavorful.

Re-released as ""Leviathan Triticus"" in 2008.

Pours a reddish brown with a thin tan head. Big malt body with hints of cherry tobacco caramel malt and slightly boozy aroma. Big malt body with a spicy hop bite. Well done, age should mellow the booziness a little.

Bomber, bottled on 5/16/05. Poured deeper mahogany-tinted amber with only a dusting of beige head. The aroma picked up aged caramel with molasses and a little anise upfront with tangy wheat, earth, and herbal hoppage as accents.. graceful age on it. The flavor opened with tart wheat and degraded, but still intriguing hop bitterness (mostly herbal with some pine and citrus).. caramel at the core.. finished short, warm, and bitter with some hop character coming back after the finish followed by just a subtle heat. The bitterness built from the first sip through the finish.. balance was alright, but some age-related character caught it up in places.. all in all a very good brew!

Draft. Pours a brown body with a sweet malty aroma, sweet like candy and caramel. Well hopped with grassy and earthy with dark chewy fruit. Lots of etoh a solid beer, my personal favorite from harpoon.

On draft at Sunset grille, Allston, under the name Leviathan Triticus (also marked 14%). Pours a dark, dark ruby brown with minimal offwhite cap. Nose is rich and full of dark fruits, brandyish tones, chocolate cookie, burnt brown sugar, and many more. Musty, earthy hop character throughout. Smooth and velvety on the palate. Very nice, sippable barleywine.

(Rating #1843)

On tap at Sunset Grill & Tap: Dark brown in color with a very thin head. The nose gave up powerful scents of malt, toffee, chocolate, banana and some alcohol. In the mouth it was full-bodied and powerful with the dark flavors from the nose continuing. Again it showed some alcohol which didn’t stick out that bad, especially given the depth and power, but was noticable.
