Commercial Description:
On one of our yearly Harpoon trips abroad to experience beer culture, we traveled to birthplace of this famous style and were very impressed by the history, freshness, and flavor of this beer. We brewed our Bohemian Pilsner in order to taste those wonderful flavors once again. Our Pilsner is made from three different European malts including a large portion of Pilsner malt which provided the slightly sweet and malty backbone of the beer. In order to achieve the crisp bitterness and aromatic nose, we brewed with Tetnanger and Czech Saaz hops. The beer was dry hopped with the Saaz as well. The authentic Bohemian Pilsner yeast added depth and after a prolonged lagering period helped produce much of the character of this beer. Our Bohemian Pilsner has a smooth, slightly malty flavor that is balanced with a crisp bitterness and clean hop aroma. It brings back great memories of our trip every time I taste it. I hope you enjoy it as well. 42 IBUs.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with ppoitras (thanks!). Poured a light and slightly hazy straw / yellow color with an averaged sized white head. Aroams of grass, lightly spicy and honey. Tastes of grass, spices (stronger than the aromas), and grain. Thinner body.

100 Barrel series. Pours a straw color with a foamy white head. Smells metallic and peppery with some tea like hops and nice pils malt in the background. Taste is semi sweet with some mellow bitter hops on the finish. Mouthfeel is watery and lacking. Where are the malty hints I detected in the aroma? Lacking as far as Bohemian Pilsners go but sessionable.

After having enjoyed the Bohemian Pilsner at its release at the Boston brewery, we elected to pull back a bit, pour ourselves a tall one, and review it from the comfort of the couch. Thinking back to the release night, we remember Dan saying that he compares this offering to Pilsner Urquell, also a Czech pilsner. From the 22 oz. bottle, it pours a light yellow color that pours into a cloudy body that clarifies to a sparkling clear appearance. A large, frothy white head crowns the beer, with good retention and good lacing as we continued to enjoy. Aroma is gentle, with just a subtle hint of yeast in the form of a soapy scent. Initial taste is a light, light sweet that quickly turns to a moderate bitter finish that goes down smooth. Average to long duration on the palate. Light on the mouthfeel, we’re left slightly dry with lively carbonation. Despite its large bottle, the low ABV and crisp finish maked this an excellent session beer that we found to be very drinkable.

[bottle] Pours a golden straw color, with a pretty decent sized head. Aroma is grassy, mellow hops. Flavors are sweet and sugary, with some reasonable malt character and a bit of hops. Hardly any yeast character to speak of. Grainy, kind of odd finish.

Light-yellow body, with a frothy, creamy, white head. It has very little aroma, if any. It smells very yeasty and slightly sour as well. The flavor is mostly a strange blend of crispness from some weak hoppiness and a musty quality to it too. Malts abound in the flavor. This beer is not very well-balanced. It is too hoppy and astringent to be a good pilsner.

(22 oz. bottle, session 15, 100 bbl series, from Glen Beverage (NH)) Pours slightly hazy pale yellow with a very large foamy white head. Aroma is just a slight bit of fruitiness, and if you really dig, some honey. Mouthfeel is smooth but in a way not a pleasant texture. A little prickly. Big foamy rings of lacing. Flavor is really not much - just a fair amount of bitterness accompanying some very weak malt. Bleh - kind of a dud here for sure.

Cold 22oz bottle: Pours a clear yellow with a decent ivory head which dissipates slowly. Aroma is of yeast and grass with a hint of citrus. Taste is sweet and malty with bitter notes. Smooth and refreshing.
