| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2008 Dark orangey copper, creamy off white head. Sweet aromas of honey dipped toffee brittle lay on accents of earthy molasses nougat. Soft dry black tea flavors balance on sweet caramel notes and hints of dark fruit. A very light hop component rounds this out well. Still somewhat sweet, but never cloying. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, with a kiss of sweetness in the end. A well done winter sipper... | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 12, 2008 12 bottle. Pours an amber color with a medium creamy offwhite head. Nose of fruits, grassy hops, caramel and some aluminum. Initial taste upfront lots of malts sweetness, caramel, tastes alot like a barley wine, strong hoppy bitter backbone. Mid plate to finish continue with that sweet malts and bitter hops. Great palate duration. Good sheets of lacing and some head retention. Medium body. canary dog (443), Rutland, Vermont, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 2, 2008 At about 55° this beer is wonderful. Deep hearty aroma and flavor, yet mellow and warm. Lush mouthfeel and rather clean finish. Tastes like a really, really well-made brown ale, with a touch of ESB thrown in, and added alcohol kick. An excellent brew. nimbleprop (895), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2008 From the 12oz bottle a transparent copper brown with a lasting, creamy white head. Smells biscuity with hoppy backing. Flavor is malty with spicy touches that barleywines usually have. Fairly smooth finish with a touch of heat. Nothing sublime but another drinkable beer from what’s become an adventurous and notable series from Harpoon. puboflyons (606), New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2008 From a bottle with an expiration date of 03/24/08. Brewed in the Windsor, Vermont (USA) brewery. Looks like an English Old Style should with a darker amber tone and a decent , frothy off-white head. Smells malty and not as potent as traditional English Ales I have tried. Not watered down at all in the mouth. Rather bitter overall. High alcohol content that can make your head spin after a couple and it’s a tasty way to get your head to spin! I would like it better if it wasn’t as bitter but overall I think it’s a topnotch recipe from Harpoon. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA
