| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 1, 2007 An amber appearance with a beige head. A very malty aroma with some caramel and pancake syrup. The flavor is similar to what you would expect from the aroma, caramel, molasses, and candy sugar. A very cloying beer. The flavor was ok but I hard time with the sweetness of this beer. Overall it was ok. ChainGangGuy (2600), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 30, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark amber body with a thin, bubbly white head.
Smell: Light toffee aroma with something sweet-smelling and fruity, a bit like pink cotton candy.
Taste: Creamy caramel and marshmallowy sweetness with a meager amount of citrusy hops in the purely sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: This doesn’t really make me think "old ale" at all, and, though not altogether bad, the sweetness does become a bit cloying and unpleasant as you reach the bottom. blklab2007 (975), Connecticut, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 20, 2007 Pours a solid dark amber with a thick head. The aroma was full of malt, honey, and vanilla? A sweet malt flavor that supresses the hops. The alcohol taste is there but is well hidden behind the sugary sweetness. This beer was way too sweet for my own taste. porterhouse (1162), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 28, 2007 (22 oz. bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/ target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co.) Way too sweet...Pours clear light burnt orange/amber with two fingers of foamy biege head. Rather foul aroma of sour pine and wet blanket. Mouthfeel fairly smooth, a bit syrupy/sticky. Heavy, foamy rings of lacing. Flavor is cotton candy, sugary sweetness overlain with pineiness. Alcohol well hidden. Not sure what they were going for here - don’t think they were ever drinking anything like this back in Merry Olde England. Like drinking a cup of coffee you’ve just dumped way too much sugar in. Seems more like a barleywine than anything (but not a good one). jimhilt (1689), Bow, New Hampshire, USA

Clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Orange rind nose. Flavor is orange rind and spices, malts and hops balance nicely. $5.49 for a 22 oz bottle from Capital Convenience Concord, NH. shrubber85 (2995), Wallhalben, Germany

Bright amber color with moderate head and nice lacing. Very syrupy sweet caramel and butter flavor from start to finish - moderate hops finish. Malty aftertaste. Nice beer but wish it it had a less sweet and more malty flavor.
