Commercial Description:
The 20th installment of the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series has been brewed to celebrate the annual hop harvest. Harpoon Glacier Harvest Wet Hop beer is a pale ale made with fresh hops picked just hours before being tossed into the brew. Wet hop beers are brewed using fresh, wet (hops contain about 60% moisture when they are first picked) hops instead of traditional dried hops. Typically, when hops are picked they are quickly dried and refrigerated to make them more suitable and consistent for brewing. This process allows brewers to use hops that were harvested in the fall throughout the following year. Alternatively, wet hops need to be used within hours of their being harvested or they will begin to rapidly degrade. Wet hops retain some of their natural oils and volatile flavors that dissipate when dried. This yields an immersed, intense hop flavor in the beer. Harpoon brewer Ray Dobens, creator of the beer, harvested the Glacier hops in Seneca New York the morning of August 13th and immediately drove them back to Boston that very afternoon in a refrigerated truck. Ray added the newly harvested hops to the brew within hours after the harvest. The fresh hops were added to a malty, copper-colored ale. The combination is a pleasing blend of fresh hop flavor and sweet malt.

was really let down by this one. Probably was expecting too much. kinda an orange pour, some good foam nose is spicy hops with a little pine but alot less then what i was expecting for a wet hopped beer, flavor has a decent balance of hops and malt but not really enough hops i think for the style. Good but not great.

The beer pours fairly murky. Taking a sniff, I am surprised that I barely notice any hop aroma whatsoever. There is a little bit of bitterness in the flavor, but this is actually a fairly watery and bland beer. I am disappointed a bit with this one.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, GregClow, and Garthicus, courtesy of Blankboy. Medicinal aroma - candy sugar, plastic, sweet herbs - odd. Medium yellow, small white head. Taste - odd - sharp soapy hops, medium soft malt. Very very odd taste. Did not enjoy it.

Nice looking dark orange, though filtered and many small bubbles. Decent retention. Aroma stands out, heavy grapefruit, also some rye bread in there. Palate is very malty, with carbonation tingling the tongue. Some toffee in the palate as well. Was expecting more hops in the palate, but was lacking a bit.

Blankboys bottle, shared with Tupalev, GregClow and HogTownHarry. Appearance: Slight orange with a small light head. Aroma: Vanilla, grass and hops with malt in there too. Flavour: Grassy, rusty, with some hops in the finish.

Pours to a deep, translucent straw orange (light copper) color with a medium sized head. Slightly floral nose with almost a metallic undertone. Not bad, just different. On the palate it’s slightly metallic, floral and banana notes are present. Well carbonated without verging on the extreme. Overall, solid and interesting flavor. On the finish it’s clean, though with more pervasive notes of banana than I’d hope (i.e. it’s not as "clean" as it might’ve been). A good beer, and another interesting offering in the 100 barrel series, but not worth the $4.99.

Bomber. Clear gold with a fluffy off white head. Nose is floral and sweet orange. Tangy orange flavors, perfumey hop. Somewhat dry, tangerine finish. Decent.

I was able to drink a 100bl bottle of Harpoon Glacier Harvest Wet hop in Boston the night of game 4 of the ALCS. This was a very nice ale but contained a little too much hop when compared to the size of the body. The color is a clear light copper with a very light and airy white head. The aroma is full of hops with fresh floral hints.
