Commercial Description:
The 20th installment of the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series has been brewed to celebrate the annual hop harvest. Harpoon Glacier Harvest Wet Hop beer is a pale ale made with fresh hops picked just hours before being tossed into the brew. Wet hop beers are brewed using fresh, wet (hops contain about 60% moisture when they are first picked) hops instead of traditional dried hops. Typically, when hops are picked they are quickly dried and refrigerated to make them more suitable and consistent for brewing. This process allows brewers to use hops that were harvested in the fall throughout the following year. Alternatively, wet hops need to be used within hours of their being harvested or they will begin to rapidly degrade. Wet hops retain some of their natural oils and volatile flavors that dissipate when dried. This yields an immersed, intense hop flavor in the beer. Harpoon brewer Ray Dobens, creator of the beer, harvested the Glacier hops in Seneca New York the morning of August 13th and immediately drove them back to Boston that very afternoon in a refrigerated truck. Ray added the newly harvested hops to the brew within hours after the harvest. The fresh hops were added to a malty, copper-colored ale. The combination is a pleasing blend of fresh hop flavor and sweet malt.

Bottle, 2009 vintage, marked session 28. Pours golden-orange with a initially airy top that quickly disappears. The aroma is somewhat "mushy", like moist hops (hey, that’s the name). It drinks with a pleasant hoppy character, not overly acidic or citrusy, but instead with a mellow woodsy factor, dug into a solid malt base. (#3739, 11/15/2009)

This beer pours a very deep golden amber with a nice frothy head and good Lacing. Aroma is of extremely shy hops with a dash of malt. Flavor is very mild, flat ,with only a mild hop flavor. Skip this...

Bottle courtesy of travita as well as BMan1113VR. Clear yellow gold pour. Smell is light and even with gentle hops. Taste is bitter sweet upfront. Dirty hops characterize the flavor. Dry grain that doesn’t finish well. This is nothing special.

copper ale, 1 inch white head. English, kent golding or fuggles hop aroma? Nasty sugary engllsh malt taste with a slight bittering finish. Too sweet, and burn sugary, and too English. This could have been so good, butthey ruined it with crappy English malts... too bad.

#28 (2009 Edition). Pours with a large, off-white head and a clear golden body. Aroma of graham cracker and light floral hops. Taste is watery...hop water. Light bubbles and a watery mouthfeel. Boring.

Pours copper color with white head. Perfumey hop aroma. Grassy hop flavor with a touch of malt sweetness. Medium body with soft carbonation.
