Commercial Description:
This full, smooth wheat ale is warming and delicious. It’s mildly hopped to let the distinct flavor and aroma of real VT maple syrup take the lead. The maple sweetness and body that blankets this velvety amber beer showcases one of New Englands most beloved traditions. Brewed with wheat malt, pale malt and caramel malt. The pure maple syrup used in this beer came from two syrup makers in the Green Mountain State. The Baker Family in East Dummerston has been boiling maple sugar since the 1950s. Dave Gavett also provided syrup from his Scrag Mountain Sugar House in Waitsfield. John’s recipe, along with top quality syrup from these two Vermont maple sugar operations, resulted in a crisp wheat ale that is warming and delicious. It is mildly hopped to profile the distinct aroma and flavor of real Vermont Maple Syrup. Hopped with Willamette. Brewed by John Baker

22oz bomber from a local Hannaford. Pours an amber body with a half inch of short lived off-white head. Caramel, nut, maple, and maybe some wood-like character? Tastes like nut and maple, with some banana, caramel, and wood notes. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. More of a drinker than expected for an ABV. Overall, for the style, a very interesting and unique beer that doesn’t fall easily into any category. Not something I’ll probably get again, but well-worth the try if this is your kind of thing.

The appearance is a bright, glowing orange. Tons of carbonation. Smooth, creamy head. Looks hella nice. The smell is a hefe-ish aroma of toasted bananas. If there is maple, it’s very feint. Cloves come through too, but the banana is definitely the dominant aroma. As there is more volume volume in the beer, the maple and caramel notes come out. The taste is a pure, dark hefeweizen. But then, curiously, a rich maple slides down the back end. The mild maple adds an almost unbearable richness. Major maple aftertaste. The thick and chewy feel is bubbly with a nice fizz on the back end. Overall, it’s not exceptional, but an interesting experiment. It’s a hefe with something extra.

22oz. bomber: This one pours a slightly hazy, orangish amber color. There was a small off-white head on it that drops off rather quickly. Not too strong of an aroma. I get a whiff of the maple syrup right off. Some wheat and malts behind it. The taste is decent enough: Some malt, wheat and maple flavors. A touch of dryness in the finish. Definitely worth having again.

Copper pour with off white head and lace. Aroma of wheat and maple syrup and malt. Wheaty, abv, and maple syrup on the flavor. Aggressive carbonation on a medium bodied beer. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Pours an amber body with a tan head. Sweet caramel and candy like apple qualities, very sweet, cotton candy. Feeling a bit cold and clammy I’ll be right back I have to go check my blood sugar.

So yeah huge let down with this one. Yes it is a decent wheat beer with some full sweet malt flavor but I got nothing of VT maple syrup in it at all. Dam you John Baker for getting my hopes up. This is a decent average wheat ale but not deserving of such a limited hyped release

22oz bomber. Pours a murky brown with a small bubbly tea colored head. Aroma is cloying, some maple, light vanilla, a little caramel and not much else. Flavor is so light and just sugary with not a whole lot of strong maple flavors, just sugar water? Quite watery mouthful.
