Commercial Description:
This full, smooth wheat ale is warming and delicious. It’s mildly hopped to let the distinct flavor and aroma of real VT maple syrup take the lead. The maple sweetness and body that blankets this velvety amber beer showcases one of New Englands most beloved traditions. Brewed with wheat malt, pale malt and caramel malt. The pure maple syrup used in this beer came from two syrup makers in the Green Mountain State. The Baker Family in East Dummerston has been boiling maple sugar since the 1950s. Dave Gavett also provided syrup from his Scrag Mountain Sugar House in Waitsfield. John’s recipe, along with top quality syrup from these two Vermont maple sugar operations, resulted in a crisp wheat ale that is warming and delicious. It is mildly hopped to profile the distinct aroma and flavor of real Vermont Maple Syrup. Hopped with Willamette. Brewed by John Baker

Tasted on 03.14.09, 22 oz. bottle. Pours clear orange gold, off white head. Aroma is wheat, grass, alcohol. Flavor is grassy, watery, sugary, and wheaty. Not well blended.

Out of a bomber. Smells like wheat beer, tastes like wheat beer with only the slightest hint of what could be maple anything. Finish is almost soapy or chalky, followed by alcohol. Very disappointing out of Harpoon.

Bomber courtesy of DrDogbeer poured into a pint glass. Pours a clear amber with a short-lived beige head that lingers as a small cap adn leaves no lacing. The aroma is fairly tame with some pale malts and hints of sweetness from both the caramel malts and presumably the honey, though I wouldn’t have picked it out if I didn’t know it was in there. The taste follows the aroma but has the slightest hint of hops up front before giving way to the wheat sweetness and light fruits dipped in honey. The finish is slightly bitter. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and had decent carbonation. This is a decent wheat beer with an interesting twist, but it’s probaby just better than average for me.

22oz bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours medium amber, capped with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma of wheat, banana, spice, and mild maple. Flavor is on the sweet side at first, with caramel and maple, which is then joined by mild earthy hops and mild maple. I was a bit let down by this.

Sampled on draft at Smokin’ Joe’s in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a light red brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was sour and tangy with a hint of maple. The flavor was sour caramel and tangy malts and tasted just off. No noticable wheat and barely any maple to it. Not very good.

Draft. It was a weird tasting wheat beer, I almost can’t even classify this one. I guess that was maple I was tasting.

I love maple syrup so I naturally love this brew. Could have used more maple flavor but still pretty tasty.
