Commercial Description:
The 27th offering of Harpoon’s 100 Barrel Series is Helles Blond Bock. This light amber beer has a bready aroma, creamy smooth mouthfeel, and a clean, lingering sweetness at the finish. Brewer Jaime Schier set out to create a beer with a robust body that was light in color and delicate on the palate. Jaime combined Pale Ale malt, Munich malt, and Black malt to give the beer its intense malt flavor. A German Bock yeast accentuates the malt character, yielding a slightly sweet aroma. German Noble hops add a touch of bitterness to balance the malt. This Helles Bock recipe comprised the most malt per 120-barrel batch ever brewed at Harpoon. Enjoy it on a warm, sunny day, with a big basket of pretzels and mustard. This German style bock balances bready malt sweetness with delicate hop bitterness; light-bodied, clean and satisfying. ibu: 30 og: 17

Bomber: Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head, aroma has lemons, bread, and light earth. Medium bodied with ample carbonation, slick mouthfeel, starts and ends lightly sweet with a sweet aftertaste and some alcohol notes.

22oz Bottle. Rich, fully whole-grain cereal and malt aroma. Fresh, prickly and alive. Pours a fuming crystal clear deep orangish-gold, with a finger of sandy white. Flavors deteriorate on the palate a bit. The malt develops some skunkiness and yeast products seem somewhat high. Not wet and dead, but not crisp, clean and snappy either, somewhere in the middle. Alcohols show through a bit much in the end. This is decent craft beer, but not a particularly stunning example of the style. P.S. I hate this new rating page.

Bottle [22oz] shared with the gang at ’WaterlooWeekend Oct.’09’ -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a clear deep orange with a spare diminishing frothy off-white head. Aroma’s mild and meh, what’s there is quite sweet, with honey, pale malt and oddly enough: peas. Flavour’s also sweet, a bit too much so for me, it’s sugary along with honey and pale malt. Average bodied. I’m sure this is probably well made but I don’t care for it, it’s just not for me.

A dark golden Helles with a thin white head. In aroma, a light sweetish and perfumey malt with a bit of honey. In mouth, a crips oily malt with light nail polish remover, solventy, light German hops, light to medium bodied. On tap at Harpoon Tap House, Logan Airport, Nov. 11 2009.

[2542-20091024] 1pt6floz bottle. Mild fruity yeast aroma. Clear, medium orange brown body with a medium-lasting bubbly white head. Grainy straw yeast. Medium body. Not wonderful.

2009-10-24. Amber body with a tiny off-white head. Mild aroma is touch odd, pale malts. Flavour of pale malts, light bitterness, odd toasty malt character. Average palate. Meh, adequate example of a style that I generally do not love. Shared by HogTownHarry

Me: "Yes, but can your Blackberry make me cool like blankboy?"
blankboy: "There’s an app for that!"

On tap at Harpoon Brewery, 8 October 2009. Pleased (and surprised) to find this still available on tap. Fairly dark gold for a helles. Soft malty aroma. Sweetish palate. Good depth. Lots of body for a Helles. Quite a lot of alcohol presence. Not too sticky. Not my favourite style but I liked this one.

Bottle/22 - Pours a darkish amber in color with almost no head and very little carbonation. Aroma is not strong with floral hops and some (small) malty sweetness. Flavor is slightly sweet initially with plenty of bready yeast and some floral hops. Medium bitter in the middle and finish, which was clean and slightly astringent. Definitely "blondish"... I Like...
