checkmatei1 (629), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2009 Bottle: Poured a brown with a thin white head. The aroma was malts and syrup. The flavor was sweet malts, brown sugar, caramel, and a hint of chocolate. Overall, average at best. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 1, 2009 Dark red-orange, not very brown. Tight off white creamy foam. Thin malty aroma, some caramel. Taste is caramel, a bit of cocoa, overall thin, metallic. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 25, 2009 Brown, as might be expected from a brown ale, with a thin tan head. Aroma is a bit more challenging than I expected - toasty and nutty, but also some pine and black pepper. Flavor is pretty typical brown ale - toasty, malty, some hints of chocolate, with a decent bitterness in the finish. Benefits greatly from lowered expectations... tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Sep 23, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark copper with reasonably tall beige head. The aroma is nuts and chocolate, kind of like a candy bar, with a sort of corn husk thing over top of it. The flavor is mild caramel, a little bit of earthy hops. It’s very, very bland overall, but doesn’t really have any flaws that I can detect. It is extremely thin, though, probably too much so for what it is. This would be a good cooking beer. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA Sep 22, 2009 Looks like iced tea, but with a small head. Aroma is nutty with some caramel malts. Good mix of flavors include caramel, brown sugar, roasted malts as well as some slight hops. Biscuity, nutty, soft and easy to drink. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Aug 27, 2009 Pint glass at Valhalla. Pours looks almost exactly like a cola... with its thick bubbly carbonation, caramel tone, and not much of a head atop. Nose is molasses, sweet malt, and slight hop. Flavors are similar but wow what a session beer. I went through this sucker very quickly and it was absolutely delicious! Very clean. The gentle hop backing really make you want to keep sipping. Not sure why there is no love here.. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2009 12oz bottle purchased as part of a mixed mutli-pack at Market Basket. Pours a crystal clear dark copper brown with a thin film of off-white head. Roasted burnt malt dominate the aroma. Tastes sweet, with toffee, caramel, and chocolate notes. Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Extremely drinkable and that combined with the flavor and ABV make this one extremely sessionable. A fine brown ale. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jun 14, 2009 Clear brown pour with one finger beige head. Aroma is biscuity caramel malt, and floral grassy hops. Flavor is caramel malt with some roast and hints of dark fruit. Palate is silky but perhaps a bit over carbonated. Leaves a sticky, though dry coating on the roof of the mouth.
