Dec 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours brown/black with tight beige head. Aroma is herbal with chocolate and grass. Flavors of dark chocolate, cognac, and chocolate chip cookies. Oily and slick mouthfeel. Not to sticky, not to dry. Great as a winter seasonal.

Dec 14, 2009 pours such an opaque black that I hold it up to the light and cannot see anything. thin tan head. nose of choclate and mocha is strong. some brandy in there as well. kinda like smelling a double-fudge brownie. flavor is loads of bittersweet baker’s chocolate and dark truffle. pretty heavy. aftertaste is bitter choclate. thick and oily. pretty freaking good.

Dec 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep dark black with a thick creamy mocha head. Roast, chocolate, a touch of coffee, and a bit of sweetness from the chocolate. Medium bodied, carbonation seems a little rough, but flavor is pretty good. Roast, chocolate. Nice roast bitterness on the finish.

Dec 13, 2009 Updated: Dec 14, 2009Bottle at Sheffield’s. Very thick dark pour. Ungodly nose of chocolate - Southern Tier level. Body is a little thin and over carbonated, and the chocolate doesn’t dominate the taste but still great flavor.

Dec 11, 2009 Impressive three finger head; settles with a nice dome. Extensive spotty lace on the glass. Near black color; no light shines through.
Burnt toast aroma from extensive black patent. Dark, bitter chocolate smell--kinda a powdered cocoa nose.
More dark chocolate than the toast in the flavor. The body is too thin for the style, although the carbonation is relatively low. This makes the body slightly chewy. Interestingly, I taste a touch of children’s aspirin in the background (the fake orange flavor kind). Light hop.
With a richer body, this would be a very nice stout.

Dec 10, 2009 Bottle: The aroma consists of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and faint espresso. It pours a a dark brown with no transparency and a quarter inch beige head. The flavor starts with milk and dark chocolate. The finish has moderate vanilla and light espresso. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

Dec 9, 2009 Nice dark brown, nearly black color with a caramel colored head. Aroma is full of malts, chocolate, burnt scent, and a very slight coffee scent. Flavor is full of chocolate malts with a slight burnt finish. A damn good brew for a cold New England winter night like tonight.

Dec 2, 2009 excellent beer. Aroma is awesome as well as the appearance. Chocolate dances everywhere, start to finish. This brew was a really nice surprise. It reminds me alot of Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, except it doesn’t really have that thick creaminess to it. It mouthfeel is a little light. Makes for a great after dinner/dessert beer.
