Commercial Description:
Limited Edition Winter 2008-09 A chocolate stout is a beer with a noticeable dark chocolate flavor. This flavor is created from the use of darker, more aromatic malt that has been roasted or kilned until it acquires a chocolate color. Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate flavor, creating a rich, creamy ale. Enjoy!

Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells of cocoa. Tastes of sweet chocolate with some roasty notes. One dimensional and boring.

Draft at Capone’s. Pours dark brown toward black with off-tan head. Nose is roasty dark malt, dark choc, with a sweet, chocolatey taste, with dark malt, molasses, and a rich, solid palate complexity. This one was smooth as silk, like French silk pie.

The pour is dark brown with clear brown edges and thin tan head. The aroma is full yummy fudgy fig brownie and a sense of dark roastiness. The taste is nice and chocolaty like followed by figs, peaches, vanilla, fudge and some dark roasted malts. Wow, lots of rich flavor going on here. Yum.

The aroma has chocolate syrup, cola, toasted malt, coffee, and vanilla. The appearance is dark red brown with a smallish head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter sweet finish. The palate is average for the style. Overall, I liked it but not one of my favorites.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head with good retention leaves no lacing as it pancakes. Chocolate syrup aromas. Upfront tingling chocolate that sours in the middle and evens out to chocolate again in the dry finish.

yummy. the cocoa is highly refined with a touch of mild spices and perhaps a touch of hazelnut. highly carbonated yet a touch thin at the end. the begging however is where all the flavor is.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small foamy off white head. Nose is dry roasted dark chocolate malt. Palate is full and fizzy with a dry finish. Flavor is chocolate and dry roasted malt. Leaves a fizzy film on the tongue.
