Commercial Description:
Limited Edition Winter 2008-09 A chocolate stout is a beer with a noticeable dark chocolate flavor. This flavor is created from the use of darker, more aromatic malt that has been roasted or kilned until it acquires a chocolate color. Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate flavor, creating a rich, creamy ale. Enjoy!

Poured black with a small tan head. Good aromas of coffee, cocoa, and roasted malt. Flavors of chocolate, molasses, and a little bit of nuttiness. Not too shabby of a stout.

Bottle: The aroma consists of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and faint espresso. It pours a a dark brown with no transparency and a quarter inch beige head. The flavor starts with milk and dark chocolate. The finish has moderate vanilla and light espresso. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.

Nice dark brown, nearly black color with a caramel colored head. Aroma is full of malts, chocolate, burnt scent, and a very slight coffee scent. Flavor is full of chocolate malts with a slight burnt finish. A damn good brew for a cold New England winter night like tonight.

excellent beer. Aroma is awesome as well as the appearance. Chocolate dances everywhere, start to finish. This brew was a really nice surprise. It reminds me alot of Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, except it doesn’t really have that thick creaminess to it. It mouthfeel is a little light. Makes for a great after dinner/dessert beer.

12 oz. bottle. Great looking pitch black pour with creamy bubbly light brown head. Pure aroma of rich chocolate malt, silky milky. Taste the same. Not to thick. This exceeded my expectations from harpoon. Delicious.

The aroma is like beer with Bosco, very chocolatey, like a bitter chocolate. The flavor follows very closely. The appearance is dark brown/ruby color, partly transparent to light. The finish is sweet and bitter chocolate, light hop burn. Medium mouthfeel, a little thin for the style. Nicely crafted overall.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small foamy off white head. Nose is dry roasted dark chocolate malt. Palate is full and fizzy with a dry finish. Flavor is chocolate and dry roasted malt. Leaves a fizzy film on the tongue.

Nice creamy chocolate aroma, some good roasty notes detectable. Pours an opaque brown, with just a thin layer of light tan head. Taste of milk chocolate, with a bit of sweetness noticeable. A bit thin in the mouthfeel, but overall a very drinkable stout.

Black pour with little to no head to speak of. Light roast and some milk chocolate notes as well. Flavor is bolder than the aroma. Solid tones of chocolate and roast and ends with bitter chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium, a little thin but not as bad as I was expecting. Really all in all a drinkable, relatively tastey stout. I hope harpoon continues in this good direction.
