Pours blackish with deep brown edges and 2-finger off-tan head that retains well for a beer this big. Tastes roasty, with notes of chocolate malt, slight molasses, hops, coffee, spicy, figgy, nutty, and some creamy, lactic finishing notes.

12oz bonus from tweety. thanks paul. Pours blackish ruby with a tan head. Nose is sweet and spiced. Taste is sweet fruity and all in all not bad, not quite what I expected but not bad.

Draught. At Cole’s, Buffalo NY. Deep clear ruby with a smallish lasting creamy tan head. Deep sweet roast aroma, raisin, sweet coffee - definitely lactic - with decent dry herbal bitterness. The taste followed in all respects, strong alcohol, even sweeter than I expected, the dry herbal bitterness lingers a long time. Light body, sticky mouthfeel, sharply carbonated and the alcohol is strong enough to make it seem pretty dry. Hits all the right notes, could have a bit more body.

Tap at EBF. Pours a nice deep dark brown almost black with a nice lasting off beige head. Lots of chocolate and toffee in the flavor, spicy and earthy with hints of leather and licorice with a drying herbal crackery hint. More chocolate malts in the flavor- ok herbal and tea-like hops solightly earthy with anise spice and a toffee and slightly sweet malt backbone - drying dark bittersweet chocolate in the end. Pretty good but nothing really unique or great here.

Bottle. Pours a deep midnight black with a medium sized tan head that deflates quickly. Piles of roast, dark stone fruit, smoke, chocolate, coffee, and a few light esters. Body is medium thick, helped out by the fine carbonation. Finishes with bitter cocoa, and almost a touch of smoke.

12oz bonus bottle. Pours black. Medium tan tean. Smallest amount of roastiness. Lightly sweet. Medium to heavy body. Pretty easy to drink. Interesting hop profile that I just can’t figure out. Nice!

(Rating #2181)
