A dark and hazy, prune colored body is crowned by a thick, frothy head of khaki colored foam that settles slowly. Sticky, tattered, tapestry lacing coats the glass almost entirely, completing what is a very pretty appearance. The nose is warm and boozy, with big raisin and prune notes, as well as hints of grilled plums. A healthy dose of peppery, estery, Belgian style yeast asserts itself strongly. The flavor follows suit, dark candy sugar and stewed dark fruits imparting a hefty amount of sweetness, while zesty yeast and hints of cassis and citrus liquor lend a boozy, spicy character. Though the body is syrupy, it’s not completely full or creamy, as I prefer my quads to be. The searing heat is also an issue. Overall, it’s a tasty brew, but it has it’s share of flaws.

bottle poured a red amber in color with a thick layer of dark tan foamy head. aroma has candy sugar, dark skinned fruit, lightly spiced yeast, and mellow malt. mouth feel is thick and it has very low carbonation but does continue to hold it’s head. flavor has rich dark fruit, some unavoidable alcohol, earthy malt, Belgian yeast, and thick sweetness. it takes a few sips to get past the alcohol and sweetness but overall this is fairly solid and better than I had thought it would be.

12-oz., poured blind. Thanks, BitBucket! Crystal clear dark amber. Bright highlights. Oranges and cream on the nose. Thick creamy, sticky body. Oranges, cream, and caramel on the mid-palate. Boozy twang showing. Last place among westy, bernie, and rigor mortis in a 4-way blind quad tasting.

Cold 12oz bottle: Pours a grapefruit red color that is very cloudy with lots of floating sediment within, along with a medium sized, creamy head that shows some resistance. Aroma is mainly of dark fruits that remind me of red wine. Taste is tangy; of dark fruits, sweet grains, grassy hops, and alcohol notes. Medium bodied and crisp, with good carbonation. Ending is of dark fruits/red wine with some bitter notes.

Pours dark brown/ruby color, with a light tan head. Lightly spiced caramel and dark fruit nose, the high alcohol is noticeable. Yeasty and sweet caramel malt flavor with dark fruits, the alcohol is not as noticeable in the flavor. Smooth, creamy and rich body, I think this is somewhat underrated, especially since I only paid $3 for the 12 oz bottle.

Pours a five finger off-white head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Light carbonation and very heavy bodied. Slight caramel nose. Flavor is caramel, smooth almost syrupy. $10.19 for a 4-pak of 12oz bottles from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.
