Rich aromas of stewed golden raisin and fig ride soft undercurrents of banana cream and spice. Rich sweet boozy dark fruit flavors blend with swirls of caramel and spice. Full bodied, soft carbonation, sweet finish. Tone the sweetness down and you could have a masterpiece here. Decent none the less, but just not my thing on this night…. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 27, 2009 Wheaty, Belgian-esque yeasty, fruity and caramelly. Nice deep dark amber with fine thick head. Peppery and slick feel. Aroma i s decadent overripe fruit and spice.I am drinking this warm and yet it has good balance and the richness covers the alcohol nicely. The fatness of this ale is not excessive because it manages to use an edge of hops and phenolic spice like clove to keep it in check. Under-rated and age-worthy. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 26, 2009 Pours a nice deep amber, full bodied with an (insert-your-favorite-typical-quad-fruit) flavor. A full body and bit of alcohol taste, which I enjoy. Really a great beer, would be amazing with some good barrel aging. pineypower (1104), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2009 Bottle from Oak Tree. Pours out a somewhat cloudy reddish hued brown with a small off white lacing head. Aroma is of dark dried fruit, mainly cherries and fig, sweet candied sugar and some alcohol. Taste is complex with a full mouthfeel, figs, dark cherries, alcohol, fruit, sugary/syrupy candy flavor, sweet bread pudding and alcohol throughout. Needs balance and age will probably do that, thus the high marks. Top notch for an American Quad, I’ll probably find another bottle and let it hide away for a few years. porterhouse (1163), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2009 (Bottle from Bootleggers) Hot, sweet and spicy...Pours hazy brownish amber with one finger of light yellowish-biege head that recedes to a very thin layer. Aroma of booze, spice and candy. Mouthfeel is smooth, fairly nice, sticky at the back end. Flavor is lots of alcohol and cinnamon-like spice with a candy-like sweetness but generally not an appealing taste. Hot and unbalanced. The huge spice tries to cover the huge alcohol but just ends up adding more to the over-the-top "big" feel. This beer doesn’t really know where it’s going. One of the more unrefined Belgian-style beers I can remember. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2009 4-Pack purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood for $11.99. Poured into my nice wide Watou glass to try and cool me down on this hot night for game 2 of the Pens-’Canes series. Aroma is thick and full of sweetness, yeast, brown sugar, spice, some dark fruits as well -fig, plum and dried blueberries. Appearance is nice dark reddish brown and a thin cream head, if this was a woman, I would be giving it elevator eyes. The flavor is also nice sweet and fruity. Lots of cherry and clove flavors just wiggling around in there with a bready sweet malt texture. This doesn’t really stand out against some of the trappists, but damn if it doesn’t line up against the top of the Americans. PapaSkeetSkeet (65), , Massachusetts, USA
