This is a huge beer that really impressed me, I haven’t been wowed like this for a while. Hazy, amber brown in color with a large, frothy tan head and immense lacing. Dark, musty fruit aromas with a prominence of cherry and plum. Rich malts coupled by black licorice and a hint of banana. Smells truly wonderful. Thick with an alcohol kick that fits right in. Creamy and musty sweet, this one is a heavy sipper. A mixture of flavors showcasing Raisin, plums, star anise, clove, banana, and a thick red wine. Rich, layered, complex and wonderful. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 19, 2009 Bottle. Nice pour ... held up to the light, it’s fire-engine red, with a firm, but fizzy head. The aroma is huge -- full of grapey sweetness and sugary alcohol. There’s more of the same in the drink, exceptionally strong, sugary full of peppery, grape character. This would be an exceptional drink with some gamey meat dish, and is a nice aperitif tonight! Loved this limited edition fourth in the Leviathan series.
The appearance is dark caramel walnut color with a hint of red and a nice deep tan head and good lacing With an aroma of fruit, banana, clove, all around sweet. The 2 yeast strains seem to be battling it out for the nose. the flavor is very subtle, sweet again, alcohol is obvious, but helps cut down on the "chewiness" The palate is definitely full bodied, coats the tongue but stops short of being syrupy, which the taste and smell would lead you to expect. This is a good sipping beer on a snowy afternoon in Vermont.
Overall another solid beer from the Leviathan series by Harpoon. I will say that the Imperial IPA was probably our favorite so far, but this is worth picking up and giving a try.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 26, 2009 Pours a nice deep amber, full bodied with an (insert-your-favorite-typical-quad-fruit) flavor. A full body and bit of alcohol taste, which I enjoy. Really a great beer, would be amazing with some good barrel aging. zach8270 (2127), Henrietta, New York, USA

Aroma is sweet with a good amount of Belgian style yeast, nuts, plums, sugar, and various spices. Sweetness abounds in the flavor at the start but gives way to a very nice malty middle. Lots of malts and sugars throughout with a slightly bitter finish of apples and spices. Alcohol is very warming. I’m quite impressed. rds (230), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2009 Yes, yeasty aroma plus notes of plum, with a thin white head, a cloudy rust brown or maybe orange, explodes with figs, spice and banana, nary a trace of the strong alcohol present. Very nice balance, with a bit of dryness to offset the fruity malt. mspindler (328), Alta Loma, California, USA

Aroma is sweet, spicy, floral, and medicinal, with a ton of bubblegum and some honey. Flavor is spicy and warming with a nice smooth bitterness, some citrus and bubblegum. Full bodied but not too thick, low carbonation. Tasty tasty brew.
