Commercial Description:
The latest installment of the Harpoon Leviathan Series was brewed in the centuries-old tradition of Czech and Bohemian brewers. Harpoon Big Bohemian is a large lager with a clean maltiness and a huge aromatic hop character. Continental Pilsner, pale two-row, and Carafoam malt was used to brew this big, strong beer, true to the Leviathan Series. Pilsner malt is the classic ingredient of this classic style and the Carafoam malt produces a nice, frothy head. This malt mixture combined with Czech Saaz hops, the quintessential hop of the style, yields an assertive but not overly aggressive beer. The finish is dry with a lingering floral hop character.

12oz Bottle. Super juicy, gummy, fragrant and fresh hop aroma. Sticky noble hops backed with fresh, snappy bread and cracker pilsener malt. A mostly clear deeply hued golden, with a translucent haze and a clean white head. Flavor is a strong continuation of the aroma, with beautiful pilsener malt character, a drier, grassier feel on the hops and a warming, comforting alcohol that compliments the hops and the malt, but adds a depth to the beer. Really impressive and really well done. So nice to try an example of this style that’s so clean and fresh. Delightful!

Draft at Taco Mac. Pours cloudy amber brown with a thin white head. The aroma is pungent and awesome - loads and loads of caramel, malts, soft esters (hints of bubble gum). It has a tasty, deep malty flavor with a soft, spicy bitterness in the finish. Very full-bodied. Overall - surprisingly delicious.

Bottle. Aroma of lemon, lightly grassy hops, biscuit malt, alcohol. Didn’t realize this was one of those imperial pils, so the alcohol seemed odd, though it makes sense now! Flavor was an onslaught of grainy complexity with hay, wheat, biscuit, french bread blending seamlessly with floral, earthy, grassy hop notes, quite lovely. Happy to break the 3.6 streak for this one.

Pours copper with a white head. Smells of sage, dry malt, floral. Tastes peppery and crisp with some earthy elements and a spicy bite on the finish.

On Draft at the Brewery. Got to tour Harpoon the weekend of my little sister’s graduation. Tried this on tap afterwards. Pours a clear gold. Aroma is grassy hops and maybe some pine. The flavor is smooth, sweet malt with some hops - no trace of alcohol.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice clear light golden- massive sticky whit head and nice lace. Aroma is packed with tons of spicy and floral czech hops with a nice doughy malt backbone. Flavor is also zest, spicy and almsot resinous from the amount of hops- sap-like, with a slight crackery doughy pils malt, fresh bread, and a touch honey-like since it is so big. Spicy hop finish and pretty smooth fro a 9% impy pils. This is pretty solid stuff.

Bottle. Pours gold, with a white head. Aroma is malt, hops, and grain. Flavor is malt, hops, fruit, grain, and some alcohol. Crisp finish. This tastes more like a pilsner than I thought it would for being 9%. Might need to get more of this.

Pours a three finger white head that fades slowly leaving a very good lace. Clear pale amber color. light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Sweet pine nose. Flavor is sweet pine. Slight bitterness in aftertaste. Decent pilsner. The high ABV is hidden. $2.75 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.
