ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Nov 7, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours cloudy deep golden color with a two finger white head that falls to a ring. Rocky thick lacing from top to bottom of glass. Smells of fresh wet hops with a slight hint of citrus spice. Huge hop profile, with a balanced malt backbone. Hops are resiny and quite bitter. The malt shows flavors of bread and caramel. Tons of citrus with some pine. Finishes with a bitter hop bite, and a little bit of alcohol. A pretty impressive Imperial IPA from Harpoon.
chickenflea (7), Oviedo, Florida, USA does not count Nov 7, 2009 12-oz bottle. Aroma clean and citrusy. A beautiful clear golden orange color with a substantial white head. Nice looking beer. Surprisingly sweet with just a touch of alcohol taste. Typical hoppy aftertaste with grapefruit notes, but the sweetness lingers. Creamy, almost oily feel. A pleasant beer to drink. Approachable for those that are not "hardcore" IPA drinkers. jujubeast6000 (768), Houston, Texas, USA Nov 1, 2009 Reviewed 8/8/2009 (Draft at Flying Saucer, Houston, TX):
Pours a reddish amber clear orangish colored body. White creamy head, lasting. Aroma of pine and some citrus, like grapefruit. Musty aroma, with some woodsy notes. Enticing. Not as strong. Sweet taste. Musty aftertaste, hops, pine and sweet piney aftertaste. Very sweet, almost sickly. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA Oct 30, 2009 Slightly syrupy but imposing upon the palate. Decent mouthfeel but the brew itself feels rough around the edges and doesn’t seem to come together all that well. I liked it for sure, but it was missing that extra intangible which takes it to the next level. That being said, it is still a pretty good beer, although the the style brings high expectations. I did enjoy my time with it and will probably end up drinking it again. I would like to try the rest in this series. branspra (204), Arlington, Virginia, USA Oct 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow color with a moderate, light frothy white head. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, and some light raisins. Lively mouthfeel with a creamy finish. Tastes of grapefruit throughout with a nice pine finish. This is a hop monster beer that I will be sure to ensure going forward. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Oct 28, 2009 pours bright gold with fairly large white head. aroma is oozing hops with lots of citrus and a fair about of piney bitter hops. some caramel malt comes through the nose but its slight. drinks with a puckering amount of citrus followed quickly by an intense bitter pine/floral hop but smoothed out with a decent amount of light roast malt. bitter citrus dominates the finish. alcohol is there but not something that gets in the way. fantastic brew FishManLA (284), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Oct 24, 2009 On tap at The Barley Oak, Mandeville, LA. Pours a medium amber color with a medium sized fairly persistent head. Nose is floral and slightly fruity. Extremely flavorful with hops and malt battling it out for dominance with a result that’s ultimately an excellent balance. Hops finally win the battle and provide a hop-head finish. This is really good stuff! Fissell (7), Somerville, USA does not count Oct 22, 2009 Amazing amber color with a surprising smoothly sweet start on the tongue with a sharp pang of the strong hop overtones that shortly followed. Certainly best enjoyed during a cool Autumn evening in a small glass, as this is definitely a sipper to be relished for a long time.
