| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 18, 2009 My Bottom Line:
Juicy citrus blooms within pale malt sweetness while resinous hops progressively sink their bitter teeth in this balanced and very successful Double IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam laces around the transparent light golden amber.
-This may not be the most compelling of I2PA recipes, but it is flawless and flavorful. What more can you want?
-Alcohol is barely apparent in the flavor profile, which is appreciated.
-The powerful citrusy component is redolent of dried grapefruit.
-The grain bill does not contain much caramel malt, an absence which I like in this style because it tends to let the hops express themselves better.
-This is very drinkable for its size; the effervescence and silky mouthfeel help a lot.

Taste is tangerine, pine tree sap, grapefruit. Malt backing, fresh hop tang up front. 10% is beautifully hidden. I hate to say it but IPAs are really growing on me.. and this is one of the finest! 3.85 blklab2007 (984), Connecticut, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Sampled as a bonus beer at the summer beer tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 5/29/09. Very curious about this one, but wasn’t about to blindly drop $11.99 on a quad of it. Many thanks to Joe for opening this one for us. Semi-opaque amber pour with a big beige head. Super citrusy hop aroma (both orange and grapefruit) with a decent amount of malt balance. Orange hop flavor with a touch of alcohol, some malt and a bitter grapefruit finish. Nicely done, Harpoon! merlin48 (522), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 13, 2009 12 oz bottle pours a hazy golden amber body with a tall offwhite head. Lavish lacing. Huge hop aroma! Orange, grapefruit, grass, pine, leafy florals. Whew! This is a serious DIPA. Creamy almost full body has some heat and hop oil. Taste has orange and grapefruit citrus, raw pinecone, some grassiness, and some earthy and floral bitterness. Big, not quite chewy, malt presence is an ideal balance. Alcohol is disguised for the most part, but there’s a definite buzz here. A big swarthy impy pale ale, this one. Not for the faint of heart. keepersj12 (824), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

This hits you with a huge pine citrus aroma when you open it. Pours a nice amber with a lacing head. Flavor is big hops up front but nicely balanced with sweet malt. Aftertaste lasts hours. That could be because I can’t stop drinking them. jahmokie (14), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 11, 2009 A very enjoyable IPA with a somewhat sour fruit flavor to it. Sour, like a green apple. A nice high alcohol content, but still very enjoyable.
