Commercial Description:
Belgian Saisons were traditionally brewed to slake the thirst of 19th century farmhands. Our Saison Royale uses authentic ingredients with a nod to that tradition while staying true to our own craft brewing roots. German Pilsner and North American Pale malts are paired with Vienna malt, making up the hearty malt bill for this brew. It is hopped with British East Kent Goldings and finished with Hallertauers from the Tettnang growing region in Germany, adding a spicy, clean hop finish. We fermented the beer with a Saison yeast strain to provide the spicy, earthy character familiar to the style. To accompany this character, we added white pepper and Rosemary during the brewing, which adds depth and complexity to this celebratory brew. The result is a truly complex and rich Saison, with a noble hop character and a spicy finish. Fit for a king, better enjoyed with Friends. Original Released: August 2009. 19° 25IBUs

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate yeastiness, ginger, light lemon tartness, and a hint of pepper. It pours a hazy gold with lots of sediment and a moderate white head. The flavor starts with moderate yeastiness and citrus notes. The finish is lightly spicy with ginger and pepper and a hint of pepper. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel.

Bottle from half time in poughkeepsie. Aroma of clove, hefe, lemon. Not typical of the style. Tastes more like an imperial wit/hefe. Pour is yellow with white head atop, sediment too.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a larger white head. The aroma is floral, herbal, spicy, and sweet. The flavor is floral, herbal, lemon zest, some barnyard, and slightly fruity, The problem is this is intensely sweet and I usually like sweeter beers. Is this a style that needs to be imperialized? There is too much sweetness to enjoy this beer fully.

Bottle that I have cleverly avoided for quite some time, now. Pours a cloudy gold with a huge fizzy head and aromas sweet with honey, candy bits and cloves. Flavor is sharp with alcohol and sweet and spicy saison stuff. The booziness is a bit much for me, and the sticky sweetness isn’t really up my alley, either. That said, it ain’t bad...

12oz bottle. Pours a pale golden transparent orange with a huge fluffy head... Aroma of spice, juniper, and spruce with some fruits that barely linger in the background... Flavors flavors somewhat improve with more earthy and pithy fruits. Finish has some bitterness. Carbonation fairly high. Not a big fan at all.

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC
Hazy blond color; creamy head. Aroma of plastic and spices, lightly soapy. Sweetish malt flavor, quite good indeed, a bit flowery and soapy. Correct bitterness. Good body strength. Pleasant.
