Commercial Description:
Belgian Saisons were traditionally brewed to slake the thirst of 19th century farmhands. Our Saison Royale uses authentic ingredients with a nod to that tradition while staying true to our own craft brewing roots. German Pilsner and North American Pale malts are paired with Vienna malt, making up the hearty malt bill for this brew. It is hopped with British East Kent Goldings and finished with Hallertauers from the Tettnang growing region in Germany, adding a spicy, clean hop finish. We fermented the beer with a Saison yeast strain to provide the spicy, earthy character familiar to the style. To accompany this character, we added white pepper and Rosemary during the brewing, which adds depth and complexity to this celebratory brew. The result is a truly complex and rich Saison, with a noble hop character and a spicy finish. Fit for a king, better enjoyed with Friends. Original Released: August 2009. 19° 25IBUs

Hazy gold, thick foamy white head. Peppery ginger nose with soft undercurrents of bready pineapple throughout. Fruity ginger and pepper tones round with a soft yeasty backbone. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, drying, lightly sweet, spiced finish. It’s not Belgian authentic, but certainly a very nice take on the style...

Bottle that I have cleverly avoided for quite some time, now. Pours a cloudy gold with a huge fizzy head and aromas sweet with honey, candy bits and cloves. Flavor is sharp with alcohol and sweet and spicy saison stuff. The booziness is a bit much for me, and the sticky sweetness isn’t really up my alley, either. That said, it ain’t bad...

12oz bottle. Pours a pale golden transparent orange with a huge fluffy head... Aroma of spice, juniper, and spruce with some fruits that barely linger in the background... Flavors flavors somewhat improve with more earthy and pithy fruits. Finish has some bitterness. Carbonation fairly high. Not a big fan at all.

Hazy blond color; creamy head. Aroma of plastic and spices, lightly soapy. Sweetish malt flavor, quite good indeed, a bit flowery and soapy. Correct bitterness. Good body strength. Pleasant.

Bottle ( 12oz ). Clear gold with a HUGE fizzy white head. Fairly dry, somewhat sweet fruity/yeasty aroma, moderate alcohol, but seems less than 9% ... tastes pretty much like a tripel: sweet candy malt, strong yeast, fairly strong alcohol, nicely balanced, not too sweet. Light, crisp, lively mouthfeel, quick-finishing with a slightly dry spicy linger. Damned good.

Bottle [12oz]. Pours a clear, bubbly gold with a large fizzy white head. Aroma is sweet and yeasty along with herbs and fruit, some alcohol, light sugary sweetness and bubblegum. Flavour of yeast, herbs, alcohol, honey, sugary sweetness again and some light bitterness. Quite carbonated. Medium bodied. It’s good but it’s too "big" for a Saison in my opinion, no need to go Imperial with that style. Interesting but ultimately not on style at all. O.K. for what it is though.

12oz bottle. Poured a lighter yellow color with a huge sized white head. Not a gusher, but more of a creeper that came out of the bottle. Lots of small suspended particles. Aromas of spices, dried banana chips, yeast, and ’sweaty’. Tastes of the same.
