| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Rated while drinking: Dark reddish-brown colored body with a big fluffy caramel head. Looks good. Aroma is pretty ’normal’ at first, but underneath the head there are notes of roasted malt, nuts, sugar, and even some licorice or molasses. Not a very dominant aroma, but not necessarily required either. Flavor is full of roasted malts, backed up with the nuts that were found in the aroma. Something a bit herbal in there as well. Aftertaste is pleasant as well. A hefty contribution of carbonation on the palate, but slides down the throat quickly and leaves the back of the tongue a bit parched. Drinkable but not quite quenchable. A pretty well done dunkel for an American brewery, this is most likely Harpoon’s best beer in their distribution. puboflyons (628), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 1, 2007 Bottle with an expiration date of Oct 11, 2007 so I made it by less than two weeks. I don’t know which Harpoon brewery this one originated from. Pours extremely dark with hints of mahogany. A tan head. Smells like burnt toffee and some malts. I think there are chocolate malts in this recipe. Heavy mouth feel and the flavor is both sweet and smoked. It’s a good one. TBone (6868), Pori, Finland

Dark ruby color, small brownish head, some lace. Malty, a bit troasted aroma. Toasted, a bit chocolaty, malty flavor. Yeasty kind of notes in the aftertaste. Well-brewed into style, but as such not really so interesting although this is a good beer.
