Glad to enjoy a nice brew at the oldest restaurant in America as well! Came deep, deep brown/black, average tan head. Aroma is very roasty and smoky, quite complex in the malting. The flavour was great! Lots of complex malts, excellent hopping, and all around enjoyable after a long day. Easy to take those large sips, and very enjoyable. Good work! dwh50 (46), Clay, New York, USA

Rich aroma of lightly roasted malts, mild chocolate and maybe even a little cedar. Pretty nice pour, medium darkness for the style. Nice creamy tan head and some solid lacing. Nice body and really smooth, easy to drink. Flavor is lively, the malt is headstrong but coupled nicely with some balancing hop flavors. Lightly smoked with a moderate bitterness. A wonderful tasty treat. GriffinAvenue (396), Winchester, Massachusetts, USA

Smoky aroma, very little hop flavor, nearly no bitterness. Not as complex as many stronger beers, but it was easy to drink.
