Great domestic example of a Munich dunkel. Rich malt profile without being overly sweet, overall a refreshing brew, one of Harpoons best offerings.

Draught @ The Union Oyster House, Boston, MA: Only my second Harpoon, and I enjoyed the IPA fine. Glad to enjoy a nice brew at the oldest restaurant in America as well! Came deep, deep brown/black, average tan head. Aroma is very roasty and smoky, quite complex in the malting. The flavour was great! Lots of complex malts, excellent hopping, and all around enjoyable after a long day. Easy to take those large sips, and very enjoyable. Good work!

Sample from tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown with liht creamy brown head. Caramel malty aroma. Flavour is mild roasted malt, note of chocolate. Mildly bitter. Lovely.

Rated 2/1/07: This has quickly become one of my favorite Dunkels, boy am I impressed with the overall enjoyment of this beer. Rich aroma of lightly roasted malts, mild chocolate and maybe even a little cedar. Pretty nice pour, medium darkness for the style. Nice creamy tan head and some solid lacing. Nice body and really smooth, easy to drink. Flavor is lively, the malt is headstrong but coupled nicely with some balancing hop flavors. Lightly smoked with a moderate bitterness. A wonderful tasty treat.

Draft. Brown, Coke-syrup color. Thin, icy, lazy head. Roasted nut brown quality. Oak-tasting finish. Easy drinking but unexceptional.

My favorite harpoon. Typical of the style, very malty, sweet flavor. Not watery. Smoky aroma, very little hop flavor, nearly no bitterness. Not as complex as many stronger beers, but it was easy to drink.
